Here a few tips for starters snce you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?
Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.

Welcome to the platform. It is most definitely a pleasure to see more people in here from Atlanta like myself. If you need help or have questions with anything, don't hesitate to ask. My niche is hip hop and I have a couple of great podcasts that you might like. I'm going to follow you and I hop you do the same. Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Cool, well hell brother I'll give you some right now. So the platform is all about who you know and the content you have to offer. Follow as many people as you can BUT...follow who you think actually gets busy on here, usua. Chances are they will have more STEEM POWER thus, influence. If your friends have a lot of STEEM POWER it means they can upvote you and give you more $$$$ from their upvotes. As you can see, I'm still working on that. But there are people with thousands of STEEM POWER. But...don't kiss ass...lol...But be nice, comment on their stuff, keep it classy and really check their content out, not browsing...some can tell if you're just commenting to comment or if you're actually reading their stuff. If their stuff is too lengthy, I've learned to say fuck it and find somebody else you enjoy who's post isnt long as hell. Everyone on STEEM is on the grind, no one has time to read all that crap. Also find you a niche'...I'm willing to bet yours is music. Since music is your niche' you in sense want to be known by and rub shoulders with all the musicians on here. Mine is podcast and music so I need to rub shoulders with podcasters, musicians, and fans of both. That's it for now, have fun. But like I said...this is a marathon but man....if you put in the work, you can see some REAL bread. You are after all in the newest of platforms. This is the wild wild west. No one knows about this crypto currency quite yet...and even if they do...they don't know how deep it gets.
