Herbal Wisdom A new series explaining safe herbal medicine for you and your family
I am a lay herbalist, what does that mean? It means that i have a working knowledge of herbal medicine, experience with natural rearing both through dog breeding(hobby style i no longer do this) and child rearing.
I focus on safe herbs that are easy to self administer. Most of the herbs i use heal you through nutrition not a strong medicinal affect but don’t worry they still work! I don’t go in for fads such as acai berry( blueberry is just as good cheaper and local).

i recommend products and companies if i feel they use high quality ingredients and have a good reputation. Western herbal medicine, orthomolecular medicine (think Linus Pauling the popularizer of vitamin c) are my two favourite forms of medicine.

Auyrveda is certainly the oldest herbal tradition predating the Chinese and probably forming the basis of the Chinese system. Both these systems take years of scholarly training. I prefer the western wise women tradition (Susan S. Weed I'm talking about you!). To be clear I don't think its "better" I just find it more accessible to the average person.That being said a good herb is a good herb and I use many herbs that come from both traditions. Off the top of my head I could mention turmeric which my family has used with great success for arthritic conditions. The form we used of that particular herb is a bio-available extract of the active ingredient Curcumin manufactured by AOR.
