G'day All: My Introduction.

A hybrid life in the Boonies while hanging on the Blockchain.

So this is my introduction post to Steemit. Nice to meet you all :)

I'm a Bloke quickly approaching the milestone of 50 years on the planet . Most of this time has been spent in the northern part of Australia, the Northern Territory and North Queensland to be precise, home is currently inland and north of Cairns on the inland boarder of the Daintree National Park on a few hundred acres with a menagerie of animals and three generations of Family...and NO my Missus is not blood related before anyone gets the wrong idea.

I came across Steemit recently via a precious metals forum I have frequented for years https://www.silverstackers.com on a post made by a Steemit user @irfo1 and took a look, got hooked instantly with the variety of users and wealth of information on hand from everyday people. And here I am.

As I said, I've spent the majority of my life in the Bush or as close to it as possible and I love nothing more than wandering around in the scrub and exploring the environment, the remoteness, the peace and quiet, the harshness and fragility, the cycle of the seasons, and the interconnectedness of it all, it all fascinates me endlessly and has done since I was a small child.
Our part of the planet is one of Mountains and Waterfall's , dry brown scrub in the Dry Season contrasting with Rainforest covered mountains and then seemingly overnight, transformed into a patchwork of florescent green when the rains hit each year.

Natural Science and finding out how and why things happen the way they do, and how it all works together over vast time periods is an obsession of mine, ancient Australian history, geology, evolution, biology etc I can spend literally days at a time absorbed in.

But at the same time also, just hanging out at a place like this which is all to ourselves, chugging back a few homemade 60% Vodkas and watching the kids enjoy their own backyard is just as enjoyable to me if not more. A nice fire with the BBQ grilling up a few home grown Rump Steaks and a nice sunset makes for a lot of self contentment.

Now, while I love the bush, and could probably best be describes as a Redneck Queenslander, I also feel strongly that society as a whole has gone batshit crazy over the last decade or so, successive Gubmints and central banks have screwed the average Bruce and Jane so hard that I really don't see anyway out except for a massive reset and as a result I am also a Prepper.

Trillions in derivatives, Real Estate and Power prices, A bloated stock market, Average wages, people like George Soros , Fake news, Antifa, Whining Minority's demanding this that and the other and the far Left in general acting like spoiled little snot nosed brats, Banksters Screwing everyone over, Big Pharma, Military Industrial Complex, and add to all that, that every aspect of your online or communications life is being monitored and collected continually 24/7 by multiple groups worldwide and Orwell's 1984 now looks like a Kids Book.

We have become as self sufficient as possible as a result, and that includes Financially as well, Gold and Silver but also Crypto's.

I first found out about Crypto's ( BTC) on the site referenced above SilverStackers.com and laughed my guts out about this bunch of dickheads with pretend internet money playing Tulip Mania . Huh fucking genius that I was, that was back when I could of bought BTC for about ten bucks or less each, or basically when just one of my ounces of gold at the time if spent on BTC would of seen it be worth well north of $400,000 as of today. And that ounce of Gold is worth over $400 less now then it was back then.

I kept an eye on it though, if only to feel smug about how right I was about sneering at those fools, $100, $200, $750, @ $200 HA Ha Ha, see I told you you idiots...... completely ignoring the $10 original price tag. Then 4-5-6-$700 most of you guys know the outcome by now of course.
It was somewhere in that $200 to $700 range that I swallowed my pride and actually checked out this stupid internet money and what it really was. Then it was all aboard the Crypto Train.... TOOT TOOT Chugga Chugga- Chugga Chugga TOOT TOOT!
2 X 6 Card Mining Rig's Check, BTC, Check, Litecoin, Check,.... Then the Holy Grail ETHEREUM, I was on that shit like a Rooster on Hen. I was mining this and that and trading on Cryptsy and getting all in on this shit.

Then just on three years back My Father inlaw had a bad heart attack one weekend while we were up here on the Farm, It was bad and he needed a quadruple bypass STAT. A farm is a lot of work even when you are not running it for profit and for an ageing couple it is not going to get any easier. We made the decision that was always going to happen any way and we pulled the kids out of school and moved in, six months later the old fella was a lot better, not out of the woods yet but still alive and improving and we had transitioned to life here in the Boonies again.

Internet was a very slow crappy satellite connection with just a 20 gig per month limit that was usually gone in ten days, so the mining rigs just sat and gathered dust. I'd cashed out a lot of Crypto's for the move as we'd planned to build a new house on the property for ourselves and the (5) kids and get an orchard started along with some other things to get an income coming in. The internet was just useless really for anything other than checking the weather or sending an email, unless you wanted to wait five minutes for a page to load. This was all just before the ETH crowdsale began, life was busy, things needed doing so Crypto's just sort of faded into the background again and we got settled in.

I have a Brother Inlaw who lives in Cairns now, I got him started on Crypto's as well and late last year everytime I spoke to him he mentioned how much things were going up in price, his main thing was Dogecoin as his wife is Japanese and it was a bit of a thing when they were living over in Nagano a few years back , I had like nine million of the damn things at one stage myself.

One day we went o town and picked the mail up from our local post office about 40 km from home and there was a flyer in their for the NBN Skymuster Satellite service, three weeks later we were back on line and I took a look at coinmarketcap and just about shit my pants at the price of ETH, BTC etc it was Like $8.00 , $1000.00 and I had missed out again.... Oh Well.

I let it drift for a couple a months and then something clicked when talking to my Brow inlaw on the phone one night, HEY! I still had a doge wallet on my laptop, and a couple of others from when I was mining with my rigs and trading on cryptsy. I looked at one of my doge wallets and there was 560, 000 doge still on it which at the time was worth about $1500-$2000 or something like that, Then I opened my Potcoin wallet to find I had just over $27 K worth of coin that had just been sitting there for nearly three and a half years and forgotten about, then some litecoin, then some earth coin, a little bit of BTC.
ETH was at $200 and BTC had blown the roof off. :(

Our internet is not so fast, but better than it was and it took three weeks for the new wallets to sinc up, although my Doge is still trapped somewhere inside my laptop.

The Potcoin is now a spread of different Crypto currency' s, SMD is one and I am a born again Crypto Freak absorbing all I can each and everyday, I have learned my lesson's twice over now, First with BTC by being a smug prick, and secondly with ETH by letting things slide. I will not screw up this time around.

Steemit is a great part of my new learning curve, the information given here by people everyday is awesome, and the fact that it is built on blockchain technology and that you can see it growing each day powered by individual people instead of a soulless finacial organisation is a massive part of it's appeal to me.

So, that's about it for me and my introduction to you all, If you made it this far then thankyou for for reading this far. It's nothing special but is just what it is.

Before I go I would like to introduce a new little Steemeret, I showed my second youngest this forum and she got the whole gist of it immediatly as Kids do and wanted her own account. She is slowly grasping the concept of Blockchain and what it can do but is already familiar with Pootube and Instagram etc, hasn't quite grasped that she is the product there instead of the producer but I'm sure it wont be long before she does now.

Again thanks everyone and Steemit for what you all do. :)

Welcome to steemit community...

What a wonderfully written intro you got here.

Do read my below recipes to have a successful steemit experience.

RECIPES FOR SUCCESS

  • Be yourself, originality matters a lot. Write and submit quality content at least three times weekly.

  • You can get into arguments but without being disrespectful to people to avoid down votes

  • Upvote and follow posts that interest you...as well as people who upvote and follow you. Reciprocity matters. However, be careful not to exceed 20 upvotes per day as doing that will begin to deplete ur steem power. This is important.

  • Spend sometime to comment on other people's posts daily.

Observe this rules and success will follow you. Wishing you best of luck in your steemit activities.

If you want to learn all of the ends and outs about Steemit, you might want to visit @probizranker. He has a step by step video guide for new people on Steemit. I have learned so much already, and I know you will also.
Good luck.

I used to live in the countryside. I used to think that was unfortunate, so I took action to move to a big modern city. Ten years later, all I can think about is to go back to nature. And I will very soon.

I new here, too. Welcome brother.

Hi @dotmichael, I see big City's as nothing more than high intensity farms for Humans, much like caged battery chickens used for laying Egg's. Sure Human's are social animals and live in groups/tribes etc but there comes a point where it is all just a milking machine for both Governments and big business, crowd all the cattle into a feedlot and milk them for all they are worth.
There is no sense of freedom, no open horizons to look at and no personal space, nothing but friction and watching what you say and do, so you don't piss anyone off or break any laws, no room to be who you are anymore.
Get back to where you belong Mate, you will be much happier for it.

You're very right.
I am still in Toronto. But I am drawing my exit plans as we speak.

Ha, some synchronicity there, I nearly ended up in Calgary as a four year old when my old man was considering a transfer as a Commonwealth public servant, except for my Mothers hate of the Cold, instead we ended up in a little country town of just over three thousand people in the Northern Territory, Australia called Katherine. She still whined when it got below 10 Deg C lol.
Good Luck with your plans dotM , I hope it all go's smoothly, you know it is quite easy for citizens of fellow Commonwealth Country's to emigrate compared to non Commonwealth country's and Aus needs more like minded people such as yourself.
