Introducing UFSCoin - Brazil's first Crypto Study Group!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hi! We're UFSCoin, from Florianópolis, Brazil, nice meeting you!

For the past year, Brazil has seen some drastic changes in its political and economical realms. At last, big bribers are being incarcerated, our government is tackling tax laws and we're finally out of a 12-year populist regime.

The catch here is: things haven't actually improved and probably won't for quite some time. Brazil must now go through a huge economic recess in order to hopefully shape a better system, three to five years from now. But, during this period, what happens?

What always happens during crisis: common folk will pay for it.

You would think this is the perfect scenario for Crypto to legitimately thrive in, but this is still far from the truth.

Reliable and complete information regarding cryptocurrencies is incredibly hard to find in Brazilian Portuguese.

If you google "bitcoin brasil", the first result page will already display two obvious Ponzi Schemes, one straight up scam and the rest will mostly be intel too basic to be used or just technically wrong.

What I find even worse is how every single presential lecture regarding Bitcoin I've ever attended left me wondering:

It feels like Brazilians do have interest in cryptocurrencies, but are just usually too passive or demoralized to go after usable knowledge. University students, academic professors, economists, journalists and, in general, people who should be all over Bitcoin barely know what Blockchain is or how coins are traded, stored and secured.

For years, Brazilian Universities hosted stock trading, lean philosophy, gender/ethnic relations and numerous other study groups. With that in mind, me and my fellow colleagues at the Federal University of Santa Catarina are taking some liberties with the concept and creating our own study group about cryptocurrencies :)

UFSCoin will fill this void of crypto knowledge in Brazil.

The beauty of learning about this field is that you don't actually need physical space or any fancy equipment, just a device with internet access. And so, UFSCoin will be mainly brought to you trough the power of the internet.

Firstly, we'll focus on writing simple, precise and clear posts in Portuguese right here on Steem.it. We'll be tackling, among others, the following topics:

  • How Blockchain and Bitcoin work;
  • How to get started;
  • Wallets, exchanges and miscellaneous services comparisons;
  • Detailed altcoin reviews;
  • Lending and interest rates;
  • Market trends;
  • Trading techniques;
  • Crypto Projects Development;
  • Investment strategies.

Additionally, we've created a Brazilian Portuguese group on Slack, where we can chat about what's listed up there and more. As soon as we reach enough followers, we'll start hosting weekly public hangouts mainly forecasting the crypto market.

For those of you at UFSC: yes, when the time is right, we will organize presential events open to the public!

To make my point clearer, even though UFSCoin is hosted on this very gloomy island:

You can follow us from anywhere in the world. We're like that Investment Study Group in your University, but better.

Currently, we don't have a mentor professor, a dedicated room given by the department or any other form of external financial incentives. On the other hand, we don't have anything or anyone holding us back.

We're just a bunch of hobbyists who have a passion for learning more and more about the most promising technology of the century. We can completely write what we want, how we want and for whom we want. Thus, we will be as direct, transparent and skeptical as possible when sharing our knowledge.

If I still have your attention, thanks for looking into our project!

I won't ask you to follow us right away and I know only time will tell if UFSCoin is worth your trust, but that's all we ask for: a chance. Introductions are boring, I know, so until the end of the week we'll already have some useful posts up!

Oh, you may have noticed this post isn't particularly written in Portuguese and, well, from time to time, I do plan on butchering my English here on Steem when dealing with internationally fresh subjects. Fellow Brazilian readers can also use those posts opportunities to get in touch english - google translator makes sure you're not left out of the subject in case you're really lost.

Since we're at it, gringo readers, why don't you stick around and learn some Portuguese? :P

This sounds great for Brazil! Best of luck!

Thanks, mate!

Sejam bem-vindos.

Vamos juntos, qualquer coisa estamos aqui!
