Exploring Steemit
Hi all, my name is Geoff and I'm glad to be making my first post! My friend introduced me to Steemit and I thought I'd play around with it. I'm an engineer by training and have focused my life on using technology to make the lives of ordinary people better. Particularly, I love how technology can be used to democratize old business models. So Steem is right up my alley!
I wanted to know how Steemit in general was trending, so I opened up Google Trends.
What I'm seeing is an initial spike followed by some settling down to a new baseline. This isn't a bad chart - a bad chart is an initial spike settling down to the previous baseline. I interpret this as Steemit seeing a lot of activity as a bunch of people checking it out around July 13, with many people, something like 30%, staying around and engaging with the site.
That's pretty awesome.
What we want to see is a nice steady increase, with more spikes and drops, but an overall upward trend, as I annotated here.
That's all for now...
Onward. :)

That looks like the Steemit stock price! Seriously, though, I'm sure there will be patterns of mass adoption followed by culling of users who don't receive many upvoted articles.
Totally. Over time, though, as the content appeals to a broader and broader audience, the 90-9-1 rule will take over, where 1% of users contribute content and most people just consume it, with a small number of those commenting and upvoting.
Good afternoon. Your article is very useful. I voted for you.
Hi Geoff, welcome to Steemit =)
It's cool to see a visual of the interest over time. It'll be interesting to see how the trend continues moving forward.
Now that's a beautiful chart, nice corrective consolidation before the next big spike
Well @yef99 i have to say it is a very nice one, as your first post.
Keep it going, and im sure you can become a big player here :)
I think that we will have more and more people over here, what is only an improvement for steemit.
We are still in beta, i cant wait until full steemit :) Popularity would sky rocket haha :)
Great idea! The trend pattern you suggest is similar to stocks. Maybe they should start a STEEM trading system!
