Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening/witching hour,

My name is Richard and, as the title of this post implied, I'm new here. I was told about Steemit by a friend of mine, and it sounded like a good opportunity to get involved in a creative community, one which is also on the leading edge of an interesting new way of sharing content. I have a blog that I do already, sporadically, and so it made sense to utilise this forum also. I understand that I can re-post my own content, so I'll look into that, as it sounds like a good way to re-share some of my favourite pieces. As regards theme, generally I just write about whatever interests me: sport, religion, philosophy, travel, and so on. I just go with whatever idea I have at the time which piques the interest.

I'm originally from New Zealand, but have been living in (or near) London for the last twelve years. I love the city and the opportunities it offers, for work, play, travel, and so on. I work in administration, and the current company I'm at is a really good one, so I'm hoping to get a contract extension or permanent role, and stay there for a while longer. But I'll have to see about that. I also looked into the possibility of living in my other favourite place, New York, but since the last election that possibility is less appealing. Still, what a town!

I guess eventually I'll move back home and settle down. The older I get, the more appealing the peace and quiet are. I'll have to make that hard decision eventually; I guess I've been putting it off for a while. There are a few boxes to tick here, first. I essentially want to do as much travel as I can in Europe and elsewhere, and continue the (so-far relatively fruitless) task of trying to get some of my fiction published. I love sci fi and mostly write that, but I read a lot of different kind of things, including the classics and various non-fiction.

Also, I have a crappy old bike which I want to replace so I can explore the area where I live a bit more. There are a lot of nice places to go, especially during summer. Let's see how long the warm days last.
