Hello!

grand canyon profile
My name is Victor Lucas, and I am terrible at introducing my self because I haven't quite figured out who I am yet. But thats okay, at the moment im just happy! As far as ive figured out at this point, im a world traveling, book reading, fitness loving, and new experience trying explorer.

My Story
I was born in the Netherlands, and moved to the United States when I was 5 because of my dads work. Because of this, I am what we in the international relations world refer to as a "third culture kid," and therefore by definition somewhat lost. (I majored in international relations at American University in Washington, DC.) So since I finished my studies back in December, ive become a full time learner and explorer!

What Ive been learning and exploring
In mid December of last year, I set out on the trip of a life time. (although there are plans for many more in that life time! ;)) I flew with my family to Costa Rica for a vacation, and when they came back to the United States I continued to Nicaragua (where my girlfriend joined me), and then to Panama, Peru, and Chile. Ive been learning Spanish, how to eat rice and beans for every meal, and how happiness is not in the things you do but in the way you look at the world.

The things that make me, me

  • I am a huge football (the European kind) fan, and am currently watching absurd amounts with the euro cup and copa america happening at the same time
  • I read all the time, but almost exclusively fantasy or science fiction (At least 22 hours a day are in the real world, I like to escape into my mind occasionally!)
  • I live on the east coast, but am definitely a west coast person
  • Ive studied or am currently studying French, Spanish, Chinese, and German, and speak Dutch at home
  • I did kendo for five years (it looks like this)

Im really excited to start learning and growing with this community! Cheers everyone!

Welcome! I think that you are going to like it here.

Welcome @victor-lucas!

happiness is not in the things you do but in the way you look at the world.

So true. Looks like you've been around quite a bit. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Cheers.

Welcome to your new life!

Awesome! I did kendo for one and half year too! It's really exciting, isn't it?

Totally, doing kendo was the first time in my life I experienced what its like to completely stop thinking and just act (while sparring.)

Awesome! I'm also a TCK (3rd culture kid) and so are my kids. Crazy but awesome way to be raised.
