Does Allah Ban Dogs in the Qur'an?

Thinker's Corner! Does Allah ban people from having dogs in the Quran?

This is a great question to ask yourself. Many Muslims say that there is a ban on people having dogs in their homes. Allah has never mentioned this prohibition in the Quran. Matter of fact, Allah does mention a group of very righteous individuals in Surah Al-Kahf who were in the company of a dog.

♥It is We who relate to you, their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.18:13

This verse let's us know that these righteous individuals even had an increase in guidance from Allah because of their devout worship of Him, alone.

♥And We made firm their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression. 18:14

In the next verse, Allah admonishes anyone from forging a lie against Him. Which is amazing since there are so many people who forge a lie that Allah has made the dog haram. Allah knew what the people would say. Alhamdullilah.

♥These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear authority? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie?" 18:15

The dog served as a source of protection to these righteous individuals as they hid in the cave from a evil king who was trying to kill them because they would not stop believing in God and worshiping Him only.

♥"And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror." Surah 18:18

The dog was not mentioned to be accompanying any evil people or that the dog in itself was a prohibition.

Allah mentions the dog as one of the companions of the group of righteous individuals in the following verse.

♥They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone." 18:22

So can we as Muslims say that the dog is HARAM? No! If Allah did not mention the dog being Haram we can not.

Allah says in the verses below:

♥We did not leave anything out of the Book. 6:38

♥Shall I seek other than Allah as a law maker when He has brought down to you the Book fully detailed? 6:114

♥The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing can change His words. He is the Hearer, the Knowledgeable. 6:115

♥This is not fabricated hadith, but an authentication of what is with you, a detailed account of all things and a guidance and mercy for people who believe. 12:111

♥We have brought the Book down to you providing explanations for all things plus guidance and mercy, and giving news to the Muslims. 16:89

So Allah is making it very clear that His book is already in complete detail with all of His laws already in place.

♥"O you who believe! Do not forbid yourselves the good things which Allah has made lawful for you and do not exceed the limits; surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits." 5:87

Allah is commanding the believer to not forbid things which He has not himself forbidden.

I made Thinker's Corner in order for us to all go back to the Qur'an and to think on the truth. Allah's book is in completion and His deen was perfected when the last ayah was revealed.

♥This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have made for you Islam as religion.5:3

So according to the Qur'an there is no harm in getting a cute little puppy unless you are allergic like me then you may want to reconsider.
