He emphasizes that whatever we have forgiven, if there is anything to forgive, God has already forgiven in the sight of Christ for our sake, so that Satan might not take advantage of us, since we are not ignorant of his schemes. Joseph asserts that when we refuse to be offended and instead choose to exercise forgiveness, we defeat the devil at his own game.
