How to Choose the best bone cutting knife
Knife is the most important companion for us when we are in the kitchen to prepare any amazing recipe. There are wide varieties of works that we can perform using knives. From cutting vegetables or fruits to hard meat, anything you name we desperately need a perfect built and sharp knife.
That’s why there are various kinds of knives available in the market such as chef knife, paring knife, filleting knife, bone cutting knife and more.
Though amateur cooks don’t have all kinds of knives available in the market. Rather then they use chef and paring knife for most of the tasks. But one time they get stumbled when to cut through bones as it is not possible to use the conventional knife for this kind of job.
So they try to get one but find it difficult to choose one because of lack of proper knowledge. Thus suffers by buying a bad one. To rescue them from that situation today I will give bunch of tips that will help you all choose the best knife to cut through bones.
Let’s dig into it:
Go for Weighty Knife with heavier handle
You see cutting through bones isn’t an easy thing to do. Of course it is a hard thing and to break though it you obviously need a well enough pressure against it.
To do that the best we can do is to give more pressure to the bones. But the bad thing is that to perform that you will need to have strength of your arm.
So to make it easy if you choose a weighty knife then less pressure will require. And you will not need to put much of your strength.
Mid-sized knife is what you should choose
Cutting through bones is literally a crucial thing. You need to go into different joint in order cut properly. For that your knife must be able to access with. To keep that in mind I strongly recommend that you must buy a medium sized knife.
As you can’t buy small one because it won’t create much pressure to cut through bones. On the other hand a big sized knife won’t allow you to access into tricky joints.
So to get the best option you must find mid-sized knife which has a heavy handle attached to it.
Sharpness is must thing
I think there is no wonder that I would suggest a sharpest knife for cutting through bones. Yes the knife must be sharp enough. In case you use an old knife make sure that the knife has full sharpness. You should sharpen your knife if it is dull.
There is a misconception among some people to use sharp serrated knife and work like a saw which is definitely a very bad idea indeed. Because in reality this way doesn’t work as the way it is anticipated.
So choose a sharp mid-sized knife which has heavy handle.
Don’t dare to buy slippery handled knife
As I have mentioned earlier it needs an abundant amount of effort to cut through bones. So you will need to put pressure though the knife. In order to do that your handle must not be slippery. You will suffer while grabbing the handle with great pressure.
Don’t get misguided with fancy slippery handles that looks good. Rather than buy those knives whose handles are easy to grab.
So choose a sharp mid-sized knife which has non- slip heavy handle
Don’t forget to check bolster in the handle
A bolster is an extra piece of metal that is attached to the end of handle in between of handle and blade.
Safety should always be a primary concern in cutting things. We put lot of effort while cutting bones which can cause accident if we slip from the handle to blade. So to make the job more safe and careful it is better to have a bolster attached to the handle.
A protective bolster will stand between the handle and blade. Thus it will protect your fingers from getting hampered.
So choose a sharp mid-sized knife which has non- slip heavy handle and bolster in it.
Finally a flexible blade is highly recommended
You are working with bones which means your blade needs to be capable enough to fight against. To make sure that blade must be flexible which will help the knife to work efficiently. Besides the chance of getting shattered will be reduced if you choose a flexible blade.
First of all try to avoid ceramic blade as it is not flexible enough. There are various qualities of blades available in the market which is flexible.
You can choose any from those. But my personal recommendation will be a high carbon steel. It is reviewed well by professionals in term of flexibility.
To sum up
I think I have said enough to enlighten you about the things you should look in a bone cutting knife. I don’t think anything is left to say.
Lastly don’t get hesitated with fancy ads. Just cross check these criteria I have mentioned. I am sure you will be able to buy a perfect knife if you do so. Check also,
