Upcycling Garter Stitch Squares - Update - 26 March 2026

I’ve now managed to sew together some of the knitted squares I found as part of a wool stash from a charity shop. You can read about it in this post :

I’m happy that I’ve managed to carefully ‘stretch’ the squares while joining them to look as if they’re the same size. I’m also happy that the middle square that I knitted ages ago is being finally used. It’s great to find a use for it and it's a great coincidence that the size is nearly perfect.

The photo above shows you the pattern adding the two side square rows. You can clearly see that there’s a much darker square which happens to be nearly black. Although it detracts a bit I still think it’s useful to add it because it completes that middle shape.

Perhaps the most detracting addition to the pattern will be the final row of squares at the bottom, see below:

As you can see adding the bottom row of available knitted squares ‘ruins the pattern’ a bit. It alters the balance. I shall have to go for it because the idea is to use those squares up.

After I finish all the sewing I'll see if I can put fabric backing to make it a bit like a quilt.
