Bible advice: The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. Proverbs 10:14
The Book of Proverbs in the Bible teaches that people are divided into two classes: those who live with wisdom and those who do not. Wisdom is the science of the correct knowledge for living, and the use of this science in societies is what allows men an educated and civilized life. In the Old Testament, the commandments that Moses received on Mount Horeb from God represent all the wisdom of Israel, and through this wisdom of God, Israel received the land and was blessed, when men lived according to divine law.
This is why the sapiential books, as the Book of Proverbs, always recommend seeking out wise people for company and as teachers, because they always point out the right path in life, as was the case with King Solomon, who received wisdom from on high. But the sapiential books also warn of something: fools, people who live according to their fleeting desires and passions, should be avoided; there is no wisdom, no spiritual guidance, no good advice in foolishness.
And the Book of Proverbs offers an interesting advice about wise men and foolish men: "The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin" Proverbs 10:14.
And this proverb is very reminiscent of what happened to Rehoboam, when his father Solomon died, and he had to appear before the assembly of Shechem to be crowned king of all Israel. Unlike his father Solomon, who instructed the nation of Israel in wisdom, Rehoboam refused to heed the counsel of the elders and instead followed the opinions of his childhood friends. As a result, his words brought only ruin to all of Israel, causing the division of the Kingdom of Israel into two. The lives of Solomon, as a wise man, and his son Rehoboam, as a fool, perfectly illustrate this beautiful proverb from the Bible. This wise proverb was ultimately written to show how the dispositions of the mind manifest themselves in society; one mind is benevolent, progressive, inclined to knowledge, and edifying, while the other is destructive, unjust, and chaotic, and only communicates error.
Science and knowledge are the main blessings of sensible men, the Bible teaches through the history of its different characters; wisdom and the fear of God are fundamental to achieve true happiness and well-being.
