아이폰 17로 바꾸며 마주한 불편한 진실
아이폰 16을 사용하던 중 예기치 않은 문제가 생겼다. 유심 슬롯이 더 이상 들어가지 않았던 것.
애플 스토어에서는 메인(미드) 시스템 문제라며 기기 교체가 필요하다고 했다. 교체 비용은 562,500원.
순간 ‘이게 말이 돼?’라는 생각이 들었다.
그런데 애플 직원은 한술 더 떠 보상판매를 권했다.
보상판매 금액은 630,000원, 아이폰 17의 가격은 1,580,000원.
수리비와 보상판매 금액을 비교해 보니,
약 33만 원만 추가하면 아이폰 16에서 17로 바꿀 수 있다는 계산이 나왔다.
하지만 문제는 따로 있었다.
알리익스프레스에서는 심 카드 리더를 단돈 1,214원에 살 수 있었던 것.
이미 보상판매를 결정하기 전, 애플 스토어 직원에게 “이 부품을 따로 구매해 개인이 교체할 수 있느냐”고 물었지만 “개인이 구하기는 어렵다”는 답을 들었었다.
결국 우리는 보상판매를 선택했다.
1,214원이면 교체할 수 있었던 심 카드 리더 때문에, 작년 1월 170만 원을 주고 산 아이폰 16을
보상판매라는 이름으로 93만 원짜리 기기로 만들어버린 셈이다. 만약 이 심 카드가 제대로 작동 된다면.... 깊은 한숨이 나왔다.
큰돈 주고 공부했다 생각하려 해도,
솔직히 말하면 ‘강도를 만난 기분’이 들었다.
조금만 더 일찍 검색해 봤더라면 이런 호갱이 되지는 않았을 텐데 말이다.
한편 프렌치 남편은 시어머니께 물려받은 아이폰 11을혼자 수리해서 지금도 잘 사용하고 있다.
이 불편한 진실 앞에서, 괜히 더 미안한 마음이 든다. 🥲

The Uncomfortable Truth Behind Switching to the iPhone 17
While using my iPhone 16, I ran into an unexpected problem.
The SIM slot suddenly stopped accepting the SIM card.
At the Apple Store, I was told it was a mid-system issue and that the phone needed to be replaced.
The replacement cost? ₩562,500.
My first thought was, Are you serious? Why is this so expensive?
But the Apple staff went one step further and suggested a trade-in instead.
The trade-in value was ₩630,000, and the price of the iPhone 17 was ₩1,580,000.
When I did the math, it turned out that by combining the repair cost and the trade-in value,
I would only need to pay about ₩330,000 more to upgrade from the iPhone 16 to the iPhone 17.
That’s when I discovered the real issue.
On AliExpress, a SIM card reader costs only ₩1,214.
Before finalizing the trade-in, I had already asked the Apple Store staff
whether it was possible for an individual to purchase the part and replace it personally.
They told me it would be difficult for a private customer to obtain.
In the end, we went ahead with the trade-in.
All because of a SIM card reader that could have been replaced for ₩1,214,
the iPhone 16 I bought last January for ₩1.7 million
was effectively reduced to a ₩930,000 device under the name of a “trade-in.”
All I could do was sigh deeply.
I try to tell myself it was an expensive lesson learned,
but honestly, it feels like being robbed.
If I had just searched online a little earlier,
I wouldn’t have ended up being such an easy target.
Meanwhile, my French husband is still happily using an iPhone 11
he received from his mother—
which he repaired himself.
Facing this uncomfortable truth,
