안녕하세요 toge입니다.

자기소개에 이어 두번째로 쓰는 글이네요.
오늘은 제가 교환학생으로 있었던 스페인 세비야에 대해 소개해 볼까 합니다.
세비야는 제가 교환학생 생활을 해서 애착이 있는 도시지만 그렇지 않더라도 제가 다녀본 몇 안되는 스페인 도시들 중 가장 아름답고 친절한 도시라고 자부할 수 있습니다. 먼저 간단히 설명을 드리자면 세비야는 스페인에서 4번째로 큰 도시이자 안달루시아 지방의 거점이 되는 도시라고도 할 수 있습니다. 하지만 관광지구는 생각보다 크지 않아 걸어서 구경이 가능하며 일정을 빡빡하게 잡으면 하루에서 느긋하게 보시기엔 이틀 정도면 충분히 세비야를 둘러보실 수 있으리라 생각됩니다.

Today, I want to talk about Seville, Spain, where I stayed for about 5 months as an exchange student. Even though I might be a bit biased because of my love for Seville from my wonderful memories I had there, I can promise you it is the most beautiful and kind city among a few places I've been to in Spain.
To briefly introduce, Seville is the 4th largest city in Spain and the largest city of Andalucia but most of the tourist attractions are located in the city center, so it only takes a day or two to just look around the city and all the tourist attractions-though that's not really enough to REALLY enjoy the city.

스페인광장입니다. 건물 벽면에 타일 모자이크 의자들이 늘어져 있는데 스페인 각 지방의 역사적인 사건들과 지역의 이름이 새겨져 있습니다. 개인적으로 세비야에서 가장 아름답다고 생각하고 좋아하는 곳입니다. 낮에도 이쁘고 밤는 또 다른 매력이 있으니 방문하시게 되면 낮과 밤 모두 가보시길 추천합니다.

This is Plaza de Espana, my favorite place in Seville. I personally think it is the most beautiful place in Seville and it has a total different charm in the daytime and after dark. On the wall of the crescent building, there are tile mosaic of different parts of Spain.

세비야에 도착하면 어렵지 않게 볼 수 있는 세비야의 상징 NO8DO입니다. 자세히 찾아보시면 멘홀뚜껑이나 버스, 가로등 등에 정말 셀 수 없을 정도로 많이 붙어있습니다. 이 상징의 의미는 '그녀(세비야)는 나를 버리지 않았다'는 의미의 'no me ha dejado'로 알폰소 10세의 아들이 반란을 일으켰을 때 세비야가 끝까지 알폰소 대왕의 편에 섰기 때문에 그 충성심을 기리는 의미에서 알폰소 10세가 내려준 표시라는 전설이 있다네요. 가운데 보이는 8은 숫자가 아닌 실타래(madeja)를 의미하는데 스페인어로는 no madeja do와 발음이 비슷해서 생긴 상징입니다.

When you visit Seville, you will realize that the symbol 'NO8DO' is everywhere. It means 'no me ha dejado', in English, 'she has not abandoned me.' It is the motto of Seville and the legion says the orgin of this motto reach back to the days of King Alfonso X. The emblem was given by King Alfonso X when Seville stayed loyal to him when his son, Sancho went against his father and led a rebellion. The '8' in the middle is not an number but a 'skein of wool' which is 'madeja' in Spanish and 'no madeja do' became 'no me ha dejado' because they sound similar.

세비야 대성당입니다. 세계에서 3번째로 큰 성당이며 콜롬버스의 묘가 있는 곳으로도 유명하죠:) 원래는 이슬람 사원이 있던 곳이었는데 스페인이 세비야를 수복한 후 그 자리에 성당을 세운 것이라네요. 주일에는 아직도 대성당에서 특정 시간대마다 정해진 예배당을 개방하여 미사를 보고 있습니다. 저도 한 번 참여해 본 적이 있는데 색다른 경험이었네요.

This is Seville Cathedral, the third largest cathedral in the world. It is famous for the tomb of Christopher Columbus and they still have mass on Sundays in one of the chapels in the Cathedral.
