시작은 한국인이라면 모두가 아는 시로 시작해보려합니다.
김춘수 시인의 '꽃'입니다.

One of my friend recommend this community to me, and I've decided to start this.
I'd like to share my translation/interpretation of my favorite songs and writings (mostly between Korean and English)
This time I'd like to start with this popular poem, which every Korean would never forget, "Flower" by Chunsoo Kim.
Every translation I post is my own thing.

꽃 - 김춘수

내가 그의 이름을 불러 주기 전에는
그는 다만
하나의 몸짓에 지나지 않았다.

Before I called her name,
she was nothing
more than a gesture.

내가 그의 이름을 불러 주었을 때
그는 나에게로 와서
꽃이 되었다.

When I called her name,
she came to me
and became a flower.

내가 그의 이름을 불러 준 것처럼
나의 이 빛깔과 향기에 알맞는
누가 나의 이름을 불러다오.

그에게로 가서 나도
그의 꽃이 되고 싶다.

Just as I called her name,
someone please call my name
that suits my colour and scent.

I, too, long to come to her
and become her flower.

우리들은 모두
무엇이 되고 싶다.

너는 나에게 나는 너에게
잊혀지지 않는 하나의 눈짓이 되고 싶다.

We all
long to be something.
You, to me, and I, to you,
long to become a gaze that won’t be forgotten.

우리 모두 서로에게 '잊혀지지 않는 하나의 눈짓'과 같은 사이가 됐으면 좋겠어요.
