From the outside, the ancient Russian hut is large, and its windows are small, decorated with carved architraves, equipped with shutters and located high. A porch is attached to the side of the hut, which is a plank platform in front of the entrance with stairs and railings, with a canopy or even with a gable roof. Old people, young people, and children often gather on it in good warm weather. It connects the hut with the street, as if it goes out to meet all passers-by, neighbors and friends, attracts the eyes, inviting them to climb the steps and cross the threshold of the house. When entering the hut, you must first enter the vestibule. This is the name of the attached hallway. This extension has other purposes. You can store goods there or make something, and in summer you can also put guests to bed there.

No hut can do without a Russian stove, it is a rather massive structure. Its main function, of course, is to give warmth in winter frosts. But the stove is also used for cooking. There are niches for dishes in it, and there is also a couch (floor).

A red corner is usually located diagonally from the stove, in which you can see icons. People pray and eat here. A dear guest is placed in the red corner for a meal.

Benches are placed along the walls and shelves with household utensils are hung. All kinds of pots, tubs, crinkles, bowls are used for cooking and storing food, serving it on the table.

In the interior of the hut, each item has its own specific purpose and a place illuminated by tradition, whether it is a wicker cradle suspended from the ceiling, a wooden bed covered with an artfully made patchwork quilt or a spinning wheel by the window and a woven rug lying by the door.
