This picture was taken in the late 1800's. It was taken near Barton's bungalow in Udawatta forest. That bungalow was built by a white officer named Bartw. It was taken over and measures were taken to settle the owners who were there at that time in the Hantana area. Later, the army officers guarding the palace were allocated accommodation. Later, when the statue of Prince Madduma Bandara was installed, it became the Madduma Bandara Park. Later, the part was gazetted under the Pujanagara program as belonging to the palace.
At the time this picture was taken, the statue of Governor Ward had not been installed.
