Most of the 17 illegal brick kilns are burning forest trees and indigenous trees. The soil of river bank and crop land is being used freely. As a result, forests are being destroyed, agricultural land and river banks are being damaged. As a result of burning these woods, the environment is being polluted with smoke, public health is going to risk. These illegal brick kilns have been going on for years by clearing forests. The local residents complain that no action of the administration is seen in this regard.

Recently, it was seen on the surface, the residents of Brickfield area of Jahazmara area of the upazila reported various problems. They said that the power tillers and tractors that are being used to transport soil, trees and bricks to the kilns have damaged the rural roads and become completely impassable. Rahim of Haji Kona village of Jahazmara Union said that their trees are dying due to the smoke of Brickfield, everyone is having breathing problems. Also all the roads are damaged due to power tillers and tractors.

On the surface, it has been found that the government forestry is almost a desert in the north of Katakhali forest of Jahazmara range. Upazila Jahazamara Range Officer Chaifur Rahman said that they are trying day and night to protect the forest. So far many forest cases have also been filed. According to data from the Jahazmara Range Office, 81 forest cases are pending in Nijhum Island National Park between 2018-19 and 2023-24. Out of this, 40 forest cases have been registered in Jahazmara Sadar Bit alone. And there have been 3 police cases in the last five years.
Meanwhile, Russell, a resident of a brick kiln in Khirodia village of Tamroddi Union, said that their various fruit trees, including mango trees, used to produce well. Because of the smoke from the Brickfields, no fruit trees are now budding, all kinds of trees are slowly dying. Agriculture is also being adversely affected.

Miraj Uddin, secretary of Hatia brickworks organization, said that they do not burn garden trees, others burn them. He also said that there is no brickfield license here, nor is there a clearance from the Department of Environment. Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mahbubur Rahman said that swift action will be taken against these brickfields and the destruction of forestry.
