Hello Everyone!!!

I hope you all are good and doing well Today I'm here to be a part of this amazing contest SLC-S31W1-"My taste My Culture/ (the name of your dish)!". First of all I would like to congratulate @alexanderpeace for selecting in SLC-S31 as contest organiser. I really like the team of contest and we will explore different cultures, their heritage and yummy recipes around the world.

Let's start today's contest;



Prepare a meal (not snacks) that represents your root and identity and show us the recipes and procedure of preparation.


For this contest I'm going to share a very simple and yummy recipes that is my family's heritage. From my childhood we are enjoying this recipe in winter. This recipe is one of my family's favorite breakfast in winter season. Today I'm sharing fenugreek khichri with you.

Let's start today's recipe;

Ingredients:

Fenugreek seeds1/4 cup
Rice1cup
Saltas per taste
Cumin seeds1/2tsp
Turmeric powder1/4tsp
Clarified butter/ghee4tbsp
Water2cups

Making:

  • First clean fenugreek seeds and soak them for 3-4 hrs. Then wash rice and soak them for 20min.

  • Take ghee in a pan and fry cumin seeds in it for a while then add turmeric powder in it and cook it for 30-second.

  • Add soaked fenugreek and soaked rice in pan .

  • Add 2 cups of water and salt in it and cook until boil comes. Turn flame low and cover the lid for 10-15 min until rice fully cooked.

  • Yummy fenugreek khichri is ready . It served hot with clarified butter/ghee.

Why is this food important to your people? When is it traditionally eaten? (Is it festive, ceremonial, daily, or symbolic?). What does it represent culturally? How does it reflect the lifestyle, values, and history of your people?

This recipe is traditional in my family, a heritage that is coming from my ancestors to me and now I have forwarded it to my kids. This yummy rice can be eaten at any time but to take full health benefits of the recipe right time to eat this recipe is early morning in winter season. It should be consumed consecutively for a week or at least three days. It prevent from cold in winter, it makes body warm and improves digestion. It act as pain reliver and give soothing effects. It increases body strength. Due to these health benefits it is used in our family once in winter season at morning around 5-6am.

What memories do you personally associate with it and the price of the ingredients in steem and local currency?

When I was a kid, at night we got the knowledge that fenugreek khichri would be eaten the next morning. My father woke up when the kichri was ready. We all are siblings with closed eyes in blankets. These memories are still alive in my mind. When my kids do the same, it reminds me of my childhood. The hot rich flavor is still in my mind. I tried this today; its flavor led me to my childhood memories. It is served with clarified butter that makes it more delicious and rich and also enhances its health goodness.

Your post is very beautiful. Methi ki khichri is really a simple but very healthy and traditional dish. Your traditional dish looks delicious too. The way you have presented the step by step recipe with pictures is easy to understand.
