Watching the waves … Phuket, Thailand – Landscape Photography
This is my entry in the LandscapePhotography contest by @juliank.
On the southwest corner of Phuket, the remote Ao Sane beach lies on the headland at the dead-end of a narrow, winding road.
No pounding rock’n’roll, only the pounding of waves
Large waves come crashing onto the rocks that line the beach, including this massive rock directly in front of the restaurant. (It’s over 3 meters high.) At the guesthouse / restaurant, there is no background music – no pounding beats, no jangling guitars, not even any annoying muzak. But the soothing sound of the crashing surf continues day and night.
On my final day there, I thanked the manager for not piping any grating music thru the speakers. (Yep, someone had installed speakers in the restaurant, and probably a sound system behind the speakers.) He smiled, swept his arm towards the waves lapping the beach, and said, “Our music comes from there.”
A spectacle of spray
Besides the energizing and comforting sound of the surf, we were also treated to the ongoing spectacle of surf crashing and spraying over this rock. Every minute or so, large waves would crash over and around it.
After many tries, I finally managed to capture this shot, which has been one of my favourite screensaver photos ever since.

This is beautifully written, and really "music comes from the waves lapping the beach".
And the variety of colors is impressive.

Thanks for the great compliment. I'm glad you like it. And thanks for the upvote!
Nothing beats the sound of the nature.
Did you swim or dive there?
Swam everyday. And every night, I slept to the soothing sounds of waves crashing against the shore / rocks. And a few bone-rattling thunderstorms!! Loved it.
You’re lucky to live near the shore now. No wonder you don’t go back to your cold country. 😊
Nope, I'm in Chiang Mai now. No shore for miles around. I think I'll soon have to move ... to the seaside.

Stunning picture. Love the color variations.
Yes, the water ranges from white to tan to jade to green to light blue to marine. It was wonderful to see it every day.
I am suffering the heat here in Siem Reap and this photo just makes me wanna jump in the sea.
Yeah, the heat is now coming to Chiang Mai, too. I wanna go to the seaside.... sooon.
