Why would you ever study Arabic?
It would be hard to argue that language isn't one of the most complex and useful tools on Earth. Now the question for every individual interested in language, is which one to pick? A constantly overlooked language is the Arabic language. I personally started studying the language independently at the age of 14. I am a native English speaker who grew up learning Germanic languages like Spanish and German. While these languages seemed more useful, the interest factor mattered to me almost just as much. This is because if learning a language isn't fun for an individual it makes learning harder. So factually speaking, why should we study Arabic? Particularly Westerners? Arabic is the fifth most spoken language in the world with over 280 million native speakers. There is a huge demand for Arabic speakers in the Western job market and a very low supply. This would yield a much larger pay for someone that speaks a somewhat less commonly known language like Arabic. I personally am learning it to make myself more marketable for the job market, and the culture itself drives me to learn more.
