I'm Ashy — Ashaolu Emmanuel Funminiyi to my lecturers when I'm in trouble, but Ashy to everyone else. I'm a 400-level law student at the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and I'm thrilled to finally plant my flag in this community.

Who I Am

Law found me the way most great obsessions do: unexpectedly, and then completely. What started as an academic pursuit has become something closer to a calling. I currently serve as Senior Advocate in my school's Students Union — a role that keeps me at the intersection of student welfare, due process, and the everyday politics of campus life. I've also spent time behind the scenes of legal education itself: organizing webinars, developing lecture content, and finding ways to make dense legal concepts click for people encountering them for the first time.

What Drives Me

Three things, really:

Jurisprudence — I love wrestling with the why behind the law, not just the what

Public interest advocacy — using legal tools to push back against injustice, especially where power imbalances leave ordinary people exposed

Social change — the belief that law, done right, should move society forward, not just preserve the status quo

I try to bring boldness to this work. Law can be a conservative discipline by nature, but I don't think that means the people practicing it have to be.

Why Steemit, Specifically

Beyond the law, I'm genuinely excited about crypto and digital currency — the tech, the philosophy, and the messy, fascinating regulatory questions it raises. Blockchain sits right at the crossroads of two things I love: systems that redistribute power and legal frameworks struggling to keep up with innovation. Steemit's whole model — rewarding content creation directly through crypto — is exactly the kind of experiment I want to be part of, both as a writer and as someone curious about where digital assets and the law are headed next. I'm still sharpening my skills here, but I'm in it to learn, earn, and contribute.

What You Can Expect From Me Here

I'll be writing about legal issues that matter — constitutional questions, cases that deserve more attention than they get, the gap between the rights we're promised on paper and the rights we actually experience. I want to make legal literacy less intimidating and more accessible, especially for people outside the profession who are affected by the law every single day but rarely get invited into the conversation about it.

Expect commentary, breakdowns of landmark cases, and the occasional unfiltered opinion on where our justice systems fall short — plus regular takes on crypto regulation, blockchain governance, and what digital currencies mean for the future of law itself.
