Know Thy Self

Knowing exactly what you want in life will help motivate you to work towards your goals when you don't particularly feel like working towards them. The trick then is to really know exactly what you truly want. This can be tricky too, since there are so many things out there. This is where having a detailed vision of your purpose in life comes in handy. What is your purpose, you might ask? Think of your purpose as your core values, then write that down into a cohesive statement. Your purpose statement should be:
Results Oriented
Time Specific
Mesurable
There are Macro-purposes, which is the main goal in which you wish to achieve; and micro-purposes, which are the little goals that you need to achieve in order to reach your Macro-purpose. For example: In May of 2024, I will legally transition my gender status to female by changing the birth marker on my birth certificate. This is an example of a well defined macro- purpose. But I want more in life than this. I want to create a fashion design business as well. So, this is going to actually take longer than May of 2024 to accomplish both of these things. I don't actually know how long this will take, but I can make an educated guess and add a year to my initial purpose statement and combine the two statements. Now I can say that my macro-purpose statement is "In May of 2025, I will create a fashion design company and be a business leader for trans-women in the LGBT community. This purpose statement has several micro-purpose statements built into it. The next thing to do with this is actually pick it apart and find all of the micro-purposes that it will take in order to fulfill this macro purpose statement.

Doing the work of finding out what it is that really motivates and drives you takes being able to judge how you feel about different things. Find out what excites you. Experiment with different imaginations and visualizations about the things in life in which you think you desire. Continually refine this process until you find yourself pointing in a direction. Your macro-purpose and the vision that it creates about the kind of person that you really want to be, will act as the compass that point you in the direction that you want to take your life. It is this everyday grinding process of going over again and again, refining our visions; the way in which we see ourselves, that is the great motivator that will take us to the next level in our self development.
