Working diferent

Hi,

a couple of years ago, I've decided that I don't want to work in engineering any more. It happened very quickly, within one year, after I was leading remote some teams in Asia. The mentality is a little different, where I wanted some simple and straight stuff, I got over inflated features, that I did not ask for, and which were not making the task better. I understood that they wanted to prove themselves, but for me, it was rather to deliver on time, in the most simple way, that could be easily edited. This is what I was asking. After moving from that company, stumbled to one that was in financial distress, which I did not know at that time. I got laid off with half of my colleagues before Christmas.

I found work in under 2 weeks, as there is a high demand for professionals. The one that hired me, who became my director, was happy to deal with my direct approach. As he asked me if I had some experience in some field, I said no, and that I will not sugar coat my answer. He said perfect, as he needs straight guys, that can say a no and don't bother about it. This was the switch to sales and top management positions.

Also, I asked for a home office contract and a lower base salary, but a high commission. High base salary makes one comfortable, but the hunger from the bonus fuels me and my work. Home office was not common, but I argued, that I shall be paid for success, not for staying in an office and chatting with other people.

This changed my life, my income skyrocketed and my free time increased. I'm still in the rat race, but with a higher chance of getting out. We can save much more each month, and this money works or us, as we sleep and to other stuff. We are not yet financial independent, but also we are not afraid that we might not have the money to put food on the table. It is a total different mindset and fulfilment to don't have the financial pressure on the head. We are very strict with spending, and have some people that we know always commenting. We can live with it, and don't bother their views, as each day bring us closer to the next step.
