My Journey into Buddhism
Hey Steemit Community :)
What's up?
In the last few weeks have been dealing with a lot of stress from university. I get too focused on exams/grades etc. and work for hours on end and it just kills my brain. I am sure some of you feel the same way as I do! Well, now that it is finally summer here (WOOO!) I have decided to return to reading Buddhism.
Why Buddhism?
When I was finishing off my high school my favourite high school teacher told me that I should look in to Buddhism to learn to collect and relax my mind. So, I started to read a book called What the Buddha Taught by the author Walpola Rahula. And I was hooked immediately. I did not feel like I was reading a book, but was having a conversation with my mind, it was so intense. I read through the book and learned several mindfulness techniques and mantras that helped me out in my life.
Why did you stop?
In Buddhism there is a term called habitual dispositions, which can be basically described as the day to day patterns that people have which pull them away from enlightenment in to the mundane existence of human life. And that's what happened to me. Once I started to go to university the lectures, parties, exams and all the other stuff pulled me out of Buddhism back in to my habitual life.
So what will I be doing?
I will start from the beginning again and rediscover Buddhism. I will be sharing what I learn/experience on, hopefully, a daily basis. I already shared a poem that I wrote a few years ago on Buddhism here. In the evening tonight I will post my favourite Buddhist mantra which I use on a daily basis to calm down after university.
