Not So Good News About My Father’s Health

Today we honor those who have served our country. My younger brothers, one who is a Chief in the Coast Guard and the other a Seal, my husband who served in the US Navy, his father who was a Warrant Officer in the Navy and all My family and friends who have served~ Thank you!

However, there is a very special vet in my life.

My father is a Vietnam Vet. He served in the Army during the war and was in charge and received a commendation and award for servicing, refurbishing over 15,000 weapons during his time served. He was in charge of the armory and maintaining/servicing weapons. This includes cleaning and fixing those that had been exposed to Agent Orange~ and this exposure led to him suffering from ischemic heart disease.

He has had 6 heart attacks in the last couple of years, a defibrillator implanted yet this has not stopped him from being an avid fisherman, a great provider, one of the handiest men I know, and the best father and grandfather our family could ask for.

This past week he received unwanted news regarding his health, upon his last ultrasound a small tumor was detected near his heart. He decided not to tell us until yesterday. He will be going in for more studies tomorrow.

This man survived a war, this man drove himself to the hospital with a piece of rebar impaled through his leg when he worked in construction, this is the man who built me a playhouse, taught me to fish, pushed my swing, and who always makes sure my car is running well, this is my dad and this news has my heart aching in more than a million ways. I hope his condition is treatable, I don’t know what I’d do without my dad.
