Where it all began.

Centuries ago, Once upon a time, during the gurukul period there lived a young man called sala in the malnad region stayed at the Gurukul in the vicinity of the Vasantika temple at Angadi. The gurukul was surrounded by thick forests of Malnad. It so happened that one day during their prayers with his guru Sudattamuni, A vicious tiger approached them. Sudattamuni alerted by his instincts Guru throws sala a rod and says "Poy Sala" (Strike Sala). Sala with all his strength took one blow at the tiger killing it and immortalizing both him and the beast. The guru impressed by his might tells sala to rule over malnad regions. His descendants The Hoysalas turned this into their emblem. They later ruled over, what's now known as Karnataka and tamilnadu until the year 1343.

During their rule they constructed over 1500 temples spread across 943 different provinces which are till date known for marvellous architecture and its immense effort to protect Indian history. In each one of their temple on either side of the main doorway leading to the sanctum you find these marvelous sculptures. Unfortunately less than a 100 of these shrines barely survived the invasions lead by the Cholas and the Mughal rulers during the later years.

Among these temples the one in belur is the most spectacular one, said to have commissioned by Bittedeva in the year 1110 CE but certain evidences prove that its much older. What ever maybe its age the work involved to carve this temple still cannot be achieved by modern tools for construction and sculpting making this a true gem for those who seek mysteries.

We might probably take another thousand years to decode all the inscriptions and crack the code involved in their architecture and sculpting keeping in mind that most of them are ruined. Knowing that this knowledge is on the blink of extension I write to you this post letting you know of its true value.

Hoysalas may not have been as great as Alexander or as ruthless as Hitler from our history, but they sure made their way to the history books with all their remarkable creations. Everyone wants to be remembered for all of time, the Hoysalas choose the most beautiful path to it.

I hope to see one of those temples one day. Its pretty obvious that a large part of our history is being lept secret. And all we have now is junk compared to the architecture and technology that they posses, i hope we crack that code soon and live freely like we used to. and I definitely believe that these structures are like art and made with love, i dont think they used any slaves to build it

I don't really know if its kept as a secret or we don't know it ourselves but nevertheless there is a lot of knowledge out there buried in plane sight just waiting to be excavated. Research teams all over the world spend billions of dollars to invent a new concept or a implication of a theory. Just imagine if we find answers to their mysteries it will help solve our own.

This particular one was from a kingdom where artists were treated with such good respect. Every artist would be so proud of their work . At the end of making good sculptures artists would be showered with semi precious stones. Slaves? naaah! not even close :)

I really hope and believe that we will discover something beyond our comprehension in this lifetime of ours. Can wait for that hidden knowledge to be discovered and empower us and hopefully solve all our problems.

Well that's were the problem is. Even today we have tech which can irradiate many hurdles but we are not able to why? Not coz of the tech but coz of greedy people who just wanna profit with each and everything. That's why I feel like this world is beyond repair at times

No doubt the history of the world is like the sea, we do not even know 70% about it, and that is what makes it extremely beautiful and mysterious. Beauty is that beautiful mystery that neither psychology nor rhetoric decipher.
Science can not solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that's because, ultimately, we ourselves are part of the mystery we're trying to solve.

Really thanks for giving the Historical insights of this amazing architecture and i really agree with you, in my opinion the ancient creations are still an great mystery because, we are developed a lot but these creations are many times better than us. Keep doing this amazing work and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

yup as simple as that.

History has always mesmerized me in every way possible. Whenever I get to see a article based on some ancient history, I never leave a chance to read the blog. It was a very nice and informative post. Thanks for sharing it with us.! :)

Ill be writing a lot of these soon so see you around :)

Yes of course, waiting!!

Nice story @awakeningartist. I like such kind of stories. Our history has a lot of things to teach us and we need to preserve it so that the future generations do not get deprived of it.
Just a question, are the clouds in the pictures are real? They look so dramatic. Have you edited them?

I appreciate these people for their work, I wonder how they built things magnificent as these without the use of machines. For these temples to have survived up to this time, I praise them.

They truly were the masters of art

Or they were people who had intrinsic machinery for carving
