Cockscomb Celosia argentea var. cristata, is a strange and fascinating creation of nature. Its English name 'cockscomb' or 'cock's comb' comes from its unique shape, which looks exactly like the comb of a rooster's head. This flower is also known as 'Wool Flower' or 'Brain Celosia', because of the velvety texture of its braided petals and the folds that look like brains or wool. This flower is a member of the Amaranthaceae family and is an annual herbaceous plant. Its native habitat is probably the equatorial region of Africa and Asia. The plant can usually grow from 30 to 90 centimeters tall. Cockscomb is available in a variety of bright colors, such as - red, orange, yellow, pink, purple and white. Although this flower is odorless, its brightness is very eye-catching.

Cockscomb plants grow best in sunny and well-drained soil. This flowering plant is disease resistant and can be easily grown indoors or outdoors, but is susceptible to fungal diseases in damp soil. Its flowers are long-lasting and do not lose their bright color when dried, so they are widely used in dried flower bouquets or decorations. The leaves and stems of some varieties of the cockscomb flower can be eaten as a vegetable and have herbal properties in traditional medicine.
