Cash crop Wheat.
Wheat is an important cash crop and food grain in Bangladesh. As the second major food grain after rice, wheat plays an important role in the country's food security and economy. The scientific name of wheat is Triticum aestivum. It is mainly a winter crop and is cultivated more in the northern and western parts of the country.
Flour, meal and semolina produced from wheat are an important part of our daily diet. Wheat is used to make various food products including bread, paratha, biscuits, cakes, noodles. As a result, farmers get good financial benefits by cultivating wheat. Since wheat cultivation is possible with comparatively less irrigation and maintenance, it is a profitable crop for many farmers.
High-yielding varieties have been developed in Bangladesh, which are disease-resistant and more productive. Sowing at the right time, applying balanced fertilizers and controlling weeds increases the yield of wheat. The use of modern agricultural technology has made wheat production more profitable.
In addition to meeting domestic demand, the development of wheat-based industries has also created employment opportunities. Therefore, wheat is not only a food grain, but also an important foundation for economic development. If proper planning and farmer support are ensured, wheat production will increase further and its contribution to the country's economy will be strengthened.
