The myth of Sonar Bangla and the golden fiber
The relationship between Bangladesh and jute is very ancient and close. Jute is called the ‘golden fiber’ of Bangladesh. We can see a vast green jute field, which is an eternal and beautiful scene of rural Bengal. The raft of white clouds in the light blue sky and the green trees on the horizon have further enhanced this beauty of nature.
At one time, jute was the main cash crop of Bangladesh and one of the sources of earning foreign exchange. Although the golden days of jute have faded somewhat due to the invasion of modern plastic products, the importance of jute is being revived again due to the increasing demand for environmentally friendly products. Various types of yarn, jute, sacks, carpets and modern hobby items are made from jute fiber. The jute seedlings have grown quite fresh and thick. The excellent green color of the leaves and healthy growth indicate that the soil here is suitable for jute and has sufficient nutrients. However, some leaves are showing light insect infestation or small holes, which is a common natural phenomenon in agriculture. If proper care and timely maintenance of such crops can be ensured, farmers can expect good yields.
