Spoon Feeding & Hand Holding In A Decentralised WorldsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hey Jessindepedants

I am somewhat conflicted when it comes to the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency as I see it as a way to reboot things and change a lot of habits I feel are not constructive to us as we move into a new world. One of them is hand-holding and spoon-feeding, a way we've been taught our entire lives.

If you've been in any traditional schooling system, you'll know you're assigned a path on how you will learn, complete this task with the rest of the class, and we all move on to the rest. Some may grasp it quickly; others understand it in the allocated time and those who don't are kept behind and fail.

Spreading the good news

When I first got into crypto, I used to think that it was up to me to spread the good news and get more people involved, to see the magic that's happening in this space and see the current system for the shambles it is today and I don't regret that experience. I learned that people are highly resistant to change; they love being comfortable and would rather not have to adapt.

In a world of instant gratification systems and products are designed to make the user lazy, to be as passive as possible to get the desired results. The moment it's a little bit harder, requires learning, reading, research, engagement with people in the know many participants shut off.

Systems shouldn't be an excuse for ignorance

A big part of not getting into blockchain is the tools are tough to use; the information is not easily categorised for people to find and understand. They shouldn't need to understand the way it works, and we pander to the stupidity of people. We accept that people are dumb as rocks and can't learn or won't be willing to learn so we should close the gap as far as possible to get them to leap. I used to think along those lines too.

Like if only the technology gets better if only the regulation is more friendly if only mainstream functions adopt it like stores and banks but do this not defeat the purpose of creating something new? I'm all for different degrees of solutions like custodial wallets for people who aren't ready for completely off the grid finance and believe we should all have a choice.

I feel as if the products will improve with time and while the number of users will increase the vast majority will never think of moving over completely short of complete and total collapse. As long as the traditional systems work and the perceived confidence, trust and benefits, be it mindless are there the consumer will remain and to me, that's their choice.

If you get burned by your bank, an insurance company or government without having any protection against a possible downside, is it anyone's fault but your own? Pleading ignorance that you "didn't know" won't help you, especially in the world today where you have access to all information at an instant.

Adapt or be left behind

When it comes to technology, humans are surprisingly fast at picking up how to use it even if there is no handbook. You see kids learning how to use Smartphones as if they were born with them in their hands and make use of functions without the need for a handbook, its a trial and error approach.

But if you're not willing to try and get some skin in the game then should I be trying to convince you? I feel as if I'm taking a more Darwinian approach to cryptocurrency and decentralisation and using it as an acid test. To be used for people I meet and speak to and engage with and how far im willing to participate.

I don't want to sound elitist or snobbish, but I feel the barrier to entry is not such a bad thing, perhaps we should allow for there to be some commitment for those wanting to move over. To place the onus on themselves to accept this new ideology of their own free will and not try to be another movement trying to force their goals and messages down peoples throats.

Financial freedom is of no use if people don't learn to use freedom of choice, thought, speech and opinion. In a genuinely free market, the wrong decisions are even more important than the good ones as they show where capital should not be placed and markets become efficient over time.

I'd like for crypto to embody free-market ideals.

Have your say

I thought this paragraph was really powerful and I couldn't agree more.

Thanks! I think we have good intensions with wanting to bring people in but we must also still let it be their choice! Show them the possiblities, provide the education but its for the individual to decide!

Id rather have fewer people truly commited than millions who would flake at the drop of a hat! Commiting to decentralisation and its ideals are going to challenge a lot of what you thought you knew or held as fact and people need to be ready for that

Fast cash is what most folks like. They won't bother to learn for pennies or dimes. Sadly, we want the financial freedom but we don't want to do the work. 😑😑

The penny hasnt dropped that figuring how to earn one makes it easier to earn the second and so it goes on! While I do feel for people i feek as if financial darwinism has to take its course! You cant tell people what to do with their lives and their money!

I think most people want to get money and do nothing!
Money is not natural to humans
Money is a prison for humanity!

I think sadly that is the case for many who enter the crypto space its still seen as a get rich quick scheme! People want wealth without work and will do crazy things to get it

I still feel that should be their choice to make bad decisions so they learn and we cant be responsible for everyone only to provide education

It is for sure a prison i agree! In its current from even people with plenty of money arent essentially liberated

100%
Yesterday I watched a video about a gypsy tribe living somewhere on the outskirts of India and Pakistan - they have no houses, they have practically nothing.
But I did not see happier faces than theirs.
They sleep, eat, dance!
And look at people tormented by problems in developed countries.
If someone will be interested to see, I'll throw off the link.
