BIG LONEY DOUG

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Who the heck is Doug and what do you mean he's 23 stories tall. This is an amazing tree and for some reason it was spared. It stands alone in the middle of a clearcut. When you see this amazing tree your jaw drops because it gives you a sense of what man is doing to the earth, stripping it of all it's resources.
When you stand beside this Douglas fir which is the second tallest in the world. The tree taller is just in the next valley with all it's tree friends. However for me this tree known as Doug speaks the loudest.

One man stood up and came against the logging company to save this massive tree and as you can see once again one person can make a difference

Tree lovers from all over the world come to see Doug who isn't really that lonely anymore because of his 1000's of visitors.
I live about 1.5 hours from The lonely Doug and if your in Victoria and I have time we can go pay Doug a visit. CHEERS

This post is so sad in a way...yet uplifting at the same time. It is sad in that with all of man's knowledge and advances, we are still clear cutting. (yes I know that they replant but in this area they harvest hardwood such as oak and black walnut and then IF they replant it is with pine. This replacement of trees that take a very long time to mature with trees that are harvested again in a very quick time, devastates the natural order of things.) I am glad that this particular old tree was saved. I wish more could be.

I love nature! good pictures

LOVE the pics! =) and thank you for your encouraging words <3

Thank you, lots of bears up there also. There a lot of fun to watch

This is incredible!!! There is a ton of deforestation happening in our area of Peru, that we as an environmental sustainability organization are working to prevent. Individual actions like this give us hope for the future! We are very new to SteemIt and we're looking forward to engaging more with the #nature community on here!

Excellent keep up the good work. Now in BC Canada it's law that new tree's have to be planted to replace old growth and their not allowed to clear cut as much. Things are getting better
Cheers

Very awesome and encouraging how the actions of one man has made a HUGE difference literally. Thank you for sharing!
