How to do stuff you would never have done otherwise.

Dear Steemians,

Have you ever had the chance to do something completely new, yet you discarded the idea because you thought it wouldn't be interesting enough or that it would be a waste of time? I think most of us have. This post is going to be about stepping out of that comfort zone of yours and breaking the everyday monotony.

For a few weeks my girlfriend had been bugging me to go "somewhere". She didn't want to tell me where, it was supposed to be a "surprise". Since I'm the kind of person that likes being in control, I don't really enjoy surprises, because they stress me out. But yesterday, I just said, "ok, let's do it".

We got out of the tram, and I saw this big sign that could be translated into english as "PARROTTERY". Yes, a huge building with a lot of parrots inside. And what's the first thing that happened when we entered the place?

This huge ara sees me holding food, takes flight, and lands on my arm. Imagine you had never been close to ANY bird, there's a lot of little parrots around you, and the first one you make contact with is this giant macaw. Of course it scared me a bit. I only had it on my arm for a few seconds - one of the workers told me to give it back, because we weren't supposed to get close to the big guys. I still managed to admire how beautiful it was.

Then I spent half an hour trying to feed a cockatoo. It wasn't easy, but I finally managed to draw its attention.

He was quite camera-shy at the start, but after a while he got going and started to pose.

If there is one lesson I learned yesterday, is that parrots will try to steal everything you have on. It might be a ring, a cup you are holding or even shoes!

If there is one lesson my girlfriend learned yesterday, is that they bite.

The meaning of the story is, if you have the chance to do something new, just do it! As long as you are not trying to break into a lion's cage or jumping out of a plane without a parachute, the worst thing that can happen is you won't like it, and you will know you should start seeking elsewhere. But if you do like it, you make have just found yourself a new hobby! Although it might be hard to do, you've got to take a leap out of that comfort zone. Trust me, with just a tiny bit of luck, life will be much more enjoyable afterwards.

I Hope you liked it. And, please, remember one thing:

Aww that's awesome, what a lovely surprise! Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone. I always enjoy being in control aswell, so when my boyfriend booked us a little vacation, I was happy he told me right away ;-)

These pictures remind me of when I was at the butterfly garden and had many of them sitting on my arms :D

Thank you! Yes, I really enjoyed it :)
