Vlog 259: blockchain/crypto is no longer a joke for my bank + APPICS ICO starts today.
APPICS will be one of the first apps on the STEEM blockchain that will utilize an SMT (Smart media token).

The SMT is called XAP token.
I'm still on the fence whether I should invest or not.
For a couple of reasons.
SMT's are not out yet and that is kind of a big deal. (I like to invest in projects that already work).
There is a competitor called Steepshot already functioning on the Steem blockchain.
Now I think the success of APPICS will mainly ride on the fact whether they can get enough influential people to use it and how good the app is.
A lot of unknowns but that comes with early investing. Big risks with huge potential rewards/losses.
I do like the fact that they promoting it as much as they can read here.
I hope it will be a huge success for them and the steem blockchain.

Investment aside, if this and other projects alike based on smt succeed, theoreticaly, we all win, as steem become a more valuable asset. Am I correct?
Yes!
I won’t be investing in the ICO due to higher risk and legal uncertainty here in the US. I will however keep an eye on APPICS as they grow and build out the platform towards the end of the year. Once they have a working site it’s likely I’ll sign up for a profile and may fund my account with a small investment at that point. Thanks for the post!

Thanks for sharing @exyle. Rabo might be one of the most innovative banks in The Netherlands and it's good to see that they are exploring blockchain and that they are scared. Personally I think they are really behind and in a lot of cases private permissioned blockchains are not much more than central databases. They do have some use cases but that is mostly because currently the real world is still very centralized, which might change dramatically for the next 2 generations.
Btw, I get why Appics accepts different types of crypto in their ICO, but how awesome would it have been when they would have only accepted STEEM!
For it to work they would really have to sink a lot of cash advertising it. They should also think about getting an high level entertainer someone like the Rock or Beyonce to give it a mention on their respective social media handles and get it to trend. That I believe would help with jump starting SMT revolution. For now though I agree with ur view that it is not a profitable decision to buy into the hype now.
Mark @exyle I will not be investing in APPICS since there are so many other things I like that I am putting money into. Of Course everyone knows how I like what I believe is the Cheapest Asset on Earth and that would be Physical Silver. Yes I am bias and NO this is not me Recommending that anyone Buy Silver....................... I also think that EOS is exciting and of course we already have STEEMIT working and so many things to come this year. Lots of things I like just not enough money to buy all of them.......................

Thanks to you and @surfyogi I went through few posts describing APPICS. I’m a bit confused, because even though it’s on Steem blockchain, isn’t it actually a competition to steemit? Who will have soo much time to spend on both platforms or is APPICS some kind of website that will actually promote steemit platform. Please let me know if I’m wrong. I see Steemiens excited about this, but I don’t see it this way as of now. I hope I’m wrong. After my research here is what caught my interest when it comes to APPICS:
Definitely will make a more advanced research, however I love steemit so much, I’m not sure if I’m willing to compromise.
APPICS will use an SMT (SMART MEDIA TOKEN) on the STEEM blockchain. To buy bandwidth on the network they will need STEEMpower for this token. SMT's are made with the idea to empower communities and apps (like APPICS). I see this as a very positive development.
I agree with you and i'm not investing but I like it. I like it because people are already trained to share on social media from facebook and instagam. Steemit is just like Medium and that won't sustain the ecosystem. We need an instagram type app to get real influeners on board. I like steepshot but it is not onboarding fast enough. But I do think this is a step in the right direction that will prove that short form content belongs on the blockchain.
I was so excited when I learned about Appics and thought it was absolutely brilliant. But I'm super confused about it not being on SMT or is it, plus being on ERC -20 or not lol Way above my pay grade....
I hope it absolutely blows people's minds and becomes the talk of the industry and HOPEFULLY, it all points back to Steem! And shows the world how awesome this place is...

I'm pretty sure the ICO is on Ethereum because SMT's are not out yet. I can't wait to see this become possible (ICO's on Steem blockchain).
