The rainclouds bring a mountain to Da Nang and a pizza was destroyed
While we do have mountains in Da Nang, none of them are particularly ominous. But the other day at about 4pm something very strange happened. A very scary looking set of clouds started heading our way from the south and for a brief period of time it appeared as though this city was at the foot of a very large mountain range.

Correct me if I am wrong, but without context if I was to post this and say it was a brilliant view of the nearby mountain range you would probably believe I was telling the truth wouldn't you?

none of this are actual mountains. The land to the south of Da Nang city is really flat for about 30 km in that direction. But for a small period of time it certainly looked like we were next to a mountain so large that it would put the city in the shade for half of the day.
We buckled up for what appeared to be a crazy storm but all that really happened was that we got some high winds that knocked over a couple of umbrellas at the coffee shop next door and we closed our awning in anticipation of some really heavy rain, or so it appeared. But all that actually happened was those winds and a few drops of rain.
We are not due for monsoon season for another couple of months and I am still completely unaware of what it is that makes that time of year happen so predictably every single year.
There was one casualty that happened because of these unfortunate weather conditions though and it directly affected my stomach.

According to my delivery driver and only after I contacted the delivery service to lodge a complaint, the high winds resulted in a flipping around of my pizza as it hung off the handlebars of the motorbike.
I don't believe this excuse for a second. I think that this is just one of those delivery drivers that reluctantly takes these jobs and doesn't actually give a damn about the condition that your food arrives in. I was careful to not get the pizza company in any trouble for this and I did not write a bad review for the driver either, even though I probably should have. I put in a complaint complete with the above picture and the app company called GRAB ended up refunding my entire food order cost and as far as I know, didn't charge either driver nor restaurant for the refund.
This is good customer service in my mind because they basically have a monopoly on food delivery here in Da Nang, so it is nice to see that they will take the hit themselves every now and then and well, they should. Grab probably takes in millions of dollars a month and it would make me feel bad if something like this, whether due to weather or negligence, I would rather not punish the small business owner nor the motorbike delivery guy who probably lives just a block away from poverty anyway.
Soon these scary rainclouds will become a regular part of our daily lives here in Da Nang and although the tourists really hate the turn in the weather, I really enjoy the drop in temperature that comes along with it. I also kind of enjoy the drop in tourism that this sort of change in the weather happens to bring along with it but I would bet that the businesses that depend on tourism do not feel this way.
I say bring on "the mountains" more often!

I love how you used the before and after images to drive home the point about Da Nang's weather - it's a clever way to show the dramatic change in scenery, 🌫️📸
