Here in Western Mass they've taken to using brine to salt. It becomes a dust when dry and driving on roads after a storm when it has dried is severely irritating to the eyes and sinus.
That's gross. When I was in VT they didn't really use salt, but the calcium carbonate they'd put on the dirt roads was almost as bad for the cars as the salt.
