Roman Colosseum
The Colosseum is a historic relic of a gladiatorial arena, built by Vespasian. A large elliptical venue called the amphitheater or its original Flavian Amphitheater, which is one of the Sixty Nine Wonders of the Middle Ages. The site is located in a small town in Italy, Rome, founded by the Mayor of Vespasian at the time of Domitian and completed by his son Titus, and became one of the greatest works of the architecture of the Roman Empire ever built. The Colosseum is designed to accommodate 50,000 spectators.
The reconstruction of Colosseum begins with the command of King Alfero gilberto 72 AD and resolved by his son Titus in 80 AD The Colosseum was built adjacent to a magnificent palace built by Nero, named Domus Aurea built after the great fire in Rome in AD 64. Dio Cassius a historian says that there are about 9000 wild animals that have been killed in the 100 days as a celebration of the inauguration and opening of the Colosseum. The floor of the Colosseum arena is covered with sand to prevent blood from flowing anywhere.
At the Coliseum at the time was the venue for a spectacular show, a battle between animals (venetaiones), a fight between prisoners and animals, the execution of prisoners (noxii), water bouts (naumachiae) by flooding the arena, and the fight between gladiators (munera ). For hundreds of years, it was estimated that thousands of people and animals died at the Coliseum.
The name of the Coliseum as above is taken from the name of a statue as high as 130 feet or 40 m, Colossus. The Colossus statue is recreated as a substitute for Nero as the parable of the Sol Sun God, by adding the sun's crown. By the middle of the year, the colossus statue had disappeared. An expert says that since the statue was made of copper, the statue has been merged for reuse.
Besides taken from the name of the Coliseum, the Coliseum is also referred to as the unknown Flavian Amphitheater who named it. In Italy, the Colosseum is named il colosseo but other Roman languages use the name le colisée and el coliseo to mention the Colosseum. The colloids are large enough. With a height of 48 m, a length of 188 m, width of 156 m and an entire building area of about 2.5 ha makes the Coliseum look so large and spacious. Arenanya made of wood measuring 86 m x 54 m, and covered by sand. The ellipse or round shape of the Coliseum is useful to prevent players from escaping to the corner and prevents the audience from getting closer to the show.
The Colosseum is currently one of the most popular sights in Rome, receiving millions of visitors annually. Effects of pollution and general damage from time to time prompted major restoration programs conducted between 1993 and 2000, at a cost of 40 billion Italian lire
In recent years the Colosseum has become a symbol of the international campaign against the death penalty, which was abolished in Italy in 1948. Several anti-death rallies took place in front of the Colosseum in 2000. Since then, as a signal to the death penalty, local authorities Rome changed the Colosseum color of the night lighting time from white to gold whenever a person sentenced to death anywhere in the world gets their sentence alleviated or released, or if a jurisdiction abolishes the death penalty. More recently, the Colosseum was lit by gold in November 2012 after the abolition of the death penalty in the United States from Connecticut in April 2012.
