I suppose it has to do with 1) showing your stories other than being macho and 2) age (you mentioned college so young). I dont think this method works in age groups of eg 30+, at least not the book thing, showing emotional side, yes, that works.
I don't know cause I don't have yet the age to try this method in groups of eg 30 + that's why I put in title ''girls'' not ''women's ''.
You can try when you are older :) Success with fine tuning your methods!
