Plastic Bags.

Why, oh why oh why?

We have known for a long time that plastic bags are a bane on our environment, so why are are they still causing such a problem, especially in our oceans?

And plastic in general, I know with food packaging this gets more difficult, but we can recycle, recycle, recycle.

We need to start reversing the damage we have done to our world and that means everyone needs to play their part.

This video is quite disturbing as it shows the what has killed this beautiful whale:

Yes, plastic bags...

It makes me so angry.

There are so many alternatives available, from bags for life, paper bags to homemade ones.

You can even make bags for life, blankets, purses etc out of plastic bags by plarning them:

Not into crocheting?

No problem.

Find an old t-shirt, cut the sleeves off, turn it inside out, tie the bottom of it into a knot and turn it back the right way around.

Instant bag.

Or something that lasts a little longer - still involves tying knots and t-shirts..

Easy Peasy.

So many alternatives.

NO MORE PLASTIC BAGS PLEASE!

There are islands in the oceans consisting entirely of plastic, bags and bottles mostly. Huge islands

Hello @hopehuggs

This artwork mirrors the dangerous effects of all things plastic.

There are a lot of things that are making our environment less green that ever.

Apart from Plastic bags, there is the major culprit which is oil and coal emmissions. The ozone layer is having a hard time keeping up with the level of abuse meted out on the biosphere.

I think it is high time the different governments of the world come together in all sincerity to adress the issue, because everyone will suffer the consequences.

Plastic bags really should be banned. They aren't safe for anything at all.

@hopehuggs really too many natural disasters , alot of damage has really been done to our world.
Thanks for those beautiful alternative suggestions.

Very good post and upvoted!
Where I'm based in Asia it's depressing how much plastic is given out. People really need educating about it.

hehe that was something really different :D

Fully agree. This is echoed my own thoughts! I have been using my fabric bag now for almost 2,5 years. It travels with me everywhere and stays as good as it was when I bought it. The thing which amazes me most is that when I am refusing to take plastic bags in shops some people look at me as if I am crazy.
And how I have an inspiration to make my own bag%)) Thank you @hopehuggs for being my constant inspiration!

Worked in a grocery store. Would cringe at the anti-plastic talk. As it was often a lecture I couldn't walk away from. Your post did not feel like a lecture and the tshirt bag looks incredible.

Nice post! We must save our environment. Thanks.

i remember in the "70's", i went to work with my father on his jobs as a carpenter. i remember the liberals crying "save the forest's" i remember grocery stores switching from paper bags to plastic bags, in order to save the forests. i remember asking my dad how plastic can help when paper decomposes but plastic won't? He couldn't answer either. maybe because my dad was a carpenter, i already knew that our lumber came from tree growers just for building homes. nothing was shipped from rain forests. now when i shop, i ask them to double the bags just to piss off the libs.
