Slow-Mo Winter
Winter came back full force today, and I decided to capture its beauty in several ultra slow-mo clips using my Xperia XZ Premium. The newer Sony flagships phones are capable of shooting at 960 frames per second, and given there is good natural light, the results can be amazing.
I edited and stitched the clips together in Adobe Premiere.
Enjoy and stay warm!

What a fun video! It makes me pine for winter. Well a day or two of winter anyway. I miss the idea of winter quite a bit. And you truly transported me there.
Gorgeous, dynamic photos. Masterful editing.
Thank you, Lisa! Although it's time-consuming, I love editing videos 📼
I just checked the weather forecast in LA - it makes me pine for the warm summer days... 🏖️
We mostly have those days. They do in fact lose their luster when they are always present.
Tres dramatic Dan. I enjoyed this.
If it was close to Christmas a carol would have been appropriate!!
Huge fluffy snowflakes!! Who could ask for anything more? Oh...maybe some popcorn to enjoy while watch the show.
Nice editing and video clip choices.
I would rather enjoy the show with cheese and a glass of nice red wine :) How does that sound to you?
Thank you, Deb! ☃️
That sounds lovely....for you :) lol. Well I might have a glass and a bit of cheese but you know me....a seldom sipper. Nice view....is that your balcony? If so, the mountains are buried under a layer of fog or low laying cloud. I like the pattern the snow has made too - it matches the structures on the balcony railing. (can't think of the word lol)
Thanks! Yes, it's my balcony and the snowdrift is at least half a meter high :) The snow will melt in the next few days though, as we are expecting +10-11°C. I hope that was winter's last push 😊
Such a creative way of using slo-mo. Well done.
I had been excited when I recently got my new phone because it would do 120fps. Although I didn't by the phone just for that. I had no idea that there was a phone that would do 960fps.
Thank you @smawkward! There are actually a couple of limitations when recording at 960fps - the phone can only do short clips (one second or so), and the resolution is limited to 720p. Still, the results are quite nice if there's good light.
120fps is very solid for slow-mo. What phone did you get?
I got the Oneplus 5T almost a month ago. Bought it mostly for the dash charging.
My last phone was the nexus 5. I had replaced the battery and screen to make it last but was fed up with it. If I had it charging and was using it; It would still drain the battery. I found myself carrying an external battery around with the phone most of the day.
Not trying to take away on what you did by talking about gear. Really a great job on the video, not something you see everyday and very creative.
Oh man, the 5T should be a beast when it comes to performance! :) Does it take good pictures?
Thank you once again for the kind words! I am happy that you enjoyed the video :)
It does alright. Still getting used to it. I do like that it shoots raw.
Not bad at all! :)
Nice! I love slow mo snowflakes. It's amazing what phones can do these days. That was decent resolution for the frame rate, too. Was that 1080p?
I tried to get some footage of the snow yesterday, since we got slammed iwht another snowstorm (10cm of heavy snow), but I don't do much video and my camera (and phone!) are getting long in the tooth.
Thank you, Mark! The ultra slow motion on the Sony is limited to 720p, unfortunately. I guess they will bump the resolution in their next flagship.
I just checked your frost shots from the other day - they are impressive!
Looks beautiful. I didn't know slowmo snow can look so epicly mesmerizing. :)
Thanks, @rocking-dave! Slow motion makes pretty much everything look dramatic :)
I guess it does, but still, awesome video! I think this type of footage could easily be part of a post-rock video.
Oh, I haven't thought about that but now that you mentioned it, the combination of post-rock and slow-mo footage could be quite epic :) Do you think I can find royalty free post-rock music? Thank you once again :)
Not impossible, but I really don't know. But I wouldn't be surprised if many bands would actually give their permission for something like that if asked properly and shown an example of what you have in mind. Just don't target the biggest ones, but the ones that are still smaller as they might see it as an exposure opportunity and/or a way to get a nice video for a song of theirs.
Very good point! I'll keep that in mind :)
Wow! Beautiful video! We have snow today here in Portugal too :)
Thank you @crissimoes! Snow in Portugal is something quite unusual, I guess ☃️
The slow-mo makes winter look even better than real-mo :D
Haha, everything looks better in slow-mo, if you ask me :P Have you watched the slow-mo guys on youtube? They are crazy :)
No..but now I will :D
edit: I just did! Soooo awesome. Subscribing them now!
Haha, great! Glad that you liked them :)
Woow! How you achieved so great quality in this video? I tried everything with my camera and light and I still have not so good quality and I see lots of pixels lol.
Hey, @babettxx! Well, I didn't do anything special :) Do you have the same phone, or are you speaking in general about the quality of videos?
I didn't even know that there are phones which can produce those. It is so dramatic! :) This phone is created for snow and we have a lot of it now (: yey
Haha, yes! I might shoot a few more clips today, while it's still snowing :P Most new phones (ok, the more expensive ones) can do up to 120 or 240 frames per second, which allows for some super smooth slow-mo videos :)
Thanks for stopping by, Eva!
I drop my phone almost every day and I stick to the cheap ones :) Maybe that's why I missed this technology revolution, but it looks great, especially after your editing (:
Haha, if you really want a smartphone, then you can get yourself one of those CAT phones that are supposedly indestructible :) Glad that you liked it! Благодаря за resteem-a :)
Looks amazing!
Thanks, Miro! I almost got a frostbite while taking these videos 😁
