Winter’s Arrival and the Dry Chill in the Valley
The beginning of the November month ushers in the winter season here in the valley. This winter not only brings a change in the season but also in the lifestyle of the people as well. With the onset of winter, we anticipate snow and quite foggy, cold mornings and evenings. The temperature starts dipping below zero, and so does the freezing. Early snow is also not favourable for the people here because we are mainly concerned with the horticulture sector, and just after plucking fruits, snow is not favourable because warring is the last work related to horticulture to be done before the year ends. Without that, the snow over these apple trees can cause significant damage, which not only affects crop production but also results in some additional tasks for the farmers.
But a delay in snow is also not favourable because the delay makes the winter dry, which not only affects our health but can also cause damage to both the flora and fauna of our valley. It also affects tourism, and it is only because of the snow that a large number of people can be seen here enjoying the snow and the snow-covered landscape, which turns out to be quite beautiful in this season.
This year, November has ended and December has come in, and still there are no traces of snow yet. The meteorological department is anticipating snow in mid-December. The temperature has already started going down to even minus 6 at some places, and this dry cold wave has made life quite difficult. A lot of people can be seen suffering from cough and cold, which is quite obvious due to this dry season, and people would only get relief after the snowfall.
Effectively, the season is an idle resting period for the people of the valley because all the works come to a halt, and the only thing that increases is the cost of living because a lot of things need to be managed to survive through those winter days. Due to the ongoing dry winter season, many people can be seen suffering from health issues like cough, cold, and other hazards.
The only people who seem to enjoy these dry days are the children, who not only enjoy their winter vacations but also spend the whole day on the outskirts of the village playing different games. The young boys take their food items with them and cook them there in the woods. This dry season has some advantages too, as it gives people time to store items required during the wet winter days.
Anyways, winter may come with challenges for the common people, but it is also a blessing, as it is the cold season required by the horticulture and agriculture sectors to be productive, which is actually the main economic sector of the valley.
Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
