Without introspective examination, unchecked "Desires" easily lead to a bottomless pit of anti-climaxes, wasted time and energy; while the group of life's "True Necessities" is actually small and finite.

Most people, especially in relatively wealthy nations, unconsciously reverse the definitions of "Wants" and "Needs".

Why is this so?

In a word: Consumerism.

And this Global Consumerism has been well crafted and sold to the public for decades. Result? Brainwashed buyers who "just have to" go shopping everyday!

I 100% agree with you on consumerism. Being completely subdued by the lifestyle you were born in makes it close to impossible to differentiate between the necessities and the epiphany of desires; but once the line is drawn, "the truth sets you free"
