So let me just contribute the controversial - and some would say, "mythical" - ancient story aspect...

In some circles, many believe that ancient texts (dating back to Sumerian times - and beyond), document that the "bio-engineers of the human race" knew quite well of the many health, life extending and conscious-enhancing properties of placenta consumption.

Furthermore, it's believed that the ancients held rituals to enlighten initiatives and that the practice is still alive and well today.
