When you hear the word "Yoga" what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Women exercises? It's a common thought isn't it, and many of you reading this would think exactly the same thing.

This my friends, is the biggest misconception to ever exist on this beautiful earth. Yoga has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry and has significant health and mind benefits, however where does it's origin come from?

Some say that Yoga started 5000, years ago? And was originated from India, if you look at this statement alone you will understand that yoga was something practiced by Men! Why do I say this? It's quite simple near ancient rome even women which were upper class mainly centered their lives on looking after their home and that is it! Women did not have the freedom they have today and laws of today which allow women to be seen as equals changed all that.

Yoga exists from a time where men commonally practiced it, it wasn't something which was predominantly practiced by women. Yet today thibgs are different, the mentality of people has changed and regardless of the many medical and health benefits yoga has on all body mind and soul, men just refuse to give it a go.

Try it go around ask men to start yoga, expect the response to be something like a giggle or "I'm a guy", or "don't be silly". There is a misconception that yoga is a practice only for women and it is such a distorted view, it's terrible.

The thing that stops men practicing usually is an ego and pride, they don't want to stretch and get all touchy feely, moving their body's around the gym or at home. This is a peculiar problem but one which is difficult to control, it will always be the way it is because men are no longer real men. Real men looked after their health took care of their mind and had control over their soul which today is limited or rarely seen.

Anyone who feels yoga is a practice only for women has made a grave mistake, yoga is a universal practice one can do regardless of sex.. they can start enjoying and reaping the health benefits from the first few weeks...

So if your a women and haven't started already, what are you waiting for? And if your a man and have not started because it's a "female thing" to do, then you need to cut your ego, give your self a real slap and make some serious changes in your life.

Happy steeming loved ones kindly share your thoughts!

Interesting article and very important

You're absolutely right @jawaida, yoga is a life science which is applicable to everyone that belongs to the human race.
Thinking it's for woman or its dumb, or thoughts that it's for hippies or that you will start to look like a yogi are just that, thoughts.
Thoughts are untruths until you have found the proof that it is really so, and by finding that truth you will have to start the practice. and by starting the practice you will let go of unneeded judgmental thoughts like these.
