American Dad. The funniest show on television.

If you like science fiction shows then you've probably heard a lot about Seth MacFarlane lately. The Orville is in practically every one's mouth these days as they talk about what an amazing show it is.

Not just as a science fiction show but also as a comedy.

The Orville seems to hit on all levels.

Of course that is not the first show that Seth MacFarlane created.

The first show that Seth MacFarlane created was Family Guy. When Family Guy first came out it was considered extremely crass by sensitive audiences. It got canceled. That is not a rare thing to happen. Shows get cancelled all the time. However, it is rare for a canceled show to be brought back.

Family Guy was well loved by quite a large portion of the population.

Some of the humor in Family Guy is quite good. However, they often rely on sight gags and things that aren't even a little bit funny in order to get their point across. It's definitely not everybody's cup of tea.

The Family Guy sequel called The Cleveland Show was even worse. The Cleveland Show was almost completely devoid of humor in my opinion.

I'm not saying I never enjoyed an episode of The Cleveland Show, but I really think it would have been a lot better if it was called The Quagmire Show. Everyone likes Quagmire. Cleveland not so much.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the guy, it's just that I never found him all that funny whereas Quagmire was so unusual that I constantly giggle at all of his antics.

However, Family Guy and The Cleveland Show are not Seth MacFarlane's finest hours. I personally believe American Dad is a better show than Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and The Orville all put together even though I'm a huge fan of the Orville too.

The other day one of my friends was talking about The Orville and I mention to him that the humor in it is actually very similar to the humor in American Dad.

He'd never seen American Dad but now he is going to check it out.

American Dad is about a man that works for the CIA that takes care of his family of mostly losers. His wife doesn't work but she's extremely hot. His daughter is a stoner hippie that is constantly getting into trouble, and his son is a geek that can't score with the ladies.

He also lives with an alien and a talking fish. I know it seems like a bit much, and a really strange premise at that, but it all just works.

Every time I watch American Dad I always find something new to laugh at. For instance today the son Steve was trying to communicate with his dad, but he found he couldn't do it in person.

He had to write a report about his father so it was important that he did communicate though, so he decided to call him on the telephone.

It turned out that his dad was much more capable of talking when he was on the phone. Too capable in fact.

Hi Steve I'm glad you called, I was just thinking about your mom and our love life.

Dad just so you know all of my friends are here and I have you on speakerphone.

Oh hey guys.

So anyway about our love life.

At this point Steve tries to hang up the phone, but his friends hold him back and one of his friends says

Dad, what do moms boobs look like?

Hilarious.

Of course I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember exactly what they said, but it was funny.

I'll admit that this was kind of a more juvenile situation, but there is plenty of adult humor on here too. I really do think that humor on The Orville is practically identical to the type of humor that is displayed on American Dad.

If you've been thinking that American Dad is more like Family Guy then I tend to disagree.

The humor on American Dad is just great.

I highly suggest you check it out.

You don't have to like Family Guy to like American Dad, and you don't have to like The Orville to like American Dad either ....but if you like either one of those shows there's a chance that you will like American Dad.
