What do you do to improve what many consider to be the best phone on the market? As it turns out, not a lot.

A year ago, Samsung set the bar for what a modern smartphone should be. The Galaxy S8 pushed the boundaries of industrial design, introducing an all-screen design that made competing handsets look instantly outdated.

So it’s no surprise Samsung’s new S9, which goes on sale next Friday, barely deviates from its predecessor on first glance. Under the surface, Samsung has introduced a handful of tweaks, most notably to a smartphone’s most important component - its camera.

For the most part though, it's a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Screen and design
As with most high-end smartphones
