The passionate bear is back!

in #life7 years ago

After being married/in a live in relationship with someone for the past 10 years somehow my love of creating art was smouldered.

Hard to say whether I lost my interest in art because I was more interested in doing other hobbies such as shopping, hiking, drinking wine, biking, going out dancing, playing tennis, travelling the world, wake surfing or drinking on a boat until the sun rose; or if my energies for creating were stifled by living with a neurotic OCD person who could not handle having paint, clay, glue or anything other than Urban Barn inside the house.

Either way the creation of art was absent in my life for quite some time.

I did attend university to study fine arts so it seems a bit abnormal for me to change so much that I no longer required that process of creativity in my life.

Sure I found other ways to be creative, fashion, make-up, and throwing elaborate theme parties (no party should ever be had without a theme) but it just isn't quite the same.

Why isn't it the same?

Well I guess because you don't have a keepsake after, with everything listed above you create and then it all is torn down, almost right away. All the energy and thought you put into creating only last 24 hours or less. Sure you may have a photo or a selfie to capture what you have created but all other evidence is washed away.

I recently felt the urge to make something, to create and I decided to follow through with it.

Now I have been out of practice for 10 years like I said but I think the final project ended up being pretty adorable.

I wanted to showcase not just the final image but the process in which the image came to be. Below are snap shots of how my bear painting came to be...

bear1.png

Phase 1
Choose the shape and the placement on my canvas.

bear2.png

Phase 2
Get some colour flowing and a bit more structure to his face.

bear3.png

Phase 3
Adding a bit more detail, finding his actual shape... I didn't want him to take up the whole page!

bear4.png

Phase 4
Detailing with texture and shadowing to show off his furry coat and handsome jawline.

bear5.png

Phase 5
Add in the background and a few more highlights to his fur and I'm finished!

Now what to call him and where to hang him?

It's basic, but this bear represents the door to a pathway unknown. It felt great to sit down, and take the time to create something that I can see and keep. Who knows maybe I will do a series of forest animals and give it to my friend for her baby room. On the contrary maybe I will never paint a bear or an animal again, it all depends on what I feel inspired by at the time.

Feels like I'm coming back to life one passion at a time.

Welcome back .... great painting. I go sometimes without painting but always return. Would love to paint for a living ... some day I will thanks to Steemit

Thank you!
I guess its natural to go for a while without painting but 10 years seemed a bit much, feels good to be making some brush strokes again!
Do you post your paintings? I will take a look at your page :)

Yes ... I have posted hundreds of them ... I will post more. My interests are very eclectic and so is my blog. Http://www.rodborghesegallery.blogspot.ca

Wow beautiful. It really feels like you could be there, the colour draws you in and you feel warm looking at the sandy beach and warm lake waters.

Thanks... we spend our summers up there living off the grid on Lake Superior....

I can see that must be where you are getting your inspiration from then!

Aww thanks! I will keep at er for sure :)

Congrats on your re discovering a lost part of your true self...did you have a stuffed bear as a child?

"thread-bear" comes to mind...as I feel that's what we become when forced to stuff our true selves away for long periods of time...

Good luck with your search...

Yes I had a big bear at my gramas house, his name was Sam and he was 3 feet tall. I gotta say I think I was more in to dinosaurs at my own house though.
But yes, thread bear makes sense, you come unraveled and the true you is hanging by only a string detached so maybe places that you can hardly recognize the shape.
Thanks, I feel like I am a bit intimidated by what I might find but I am still going to pursue the journey of it all. Change is so hard but totally worth it!

This is beautiful! Best wishes :)

Thanks love, glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for visiting my page :)

Wow amazing post, great photography, you're so beautiful 😍 Nice painting

Why thank you for the many compliments and for checking out my blog :)

Art is a great skill, hobby and expression. I need to do more myself

Yes very true words, I would say we both agree on all of that.
Its infinite really.

its always good to find yourself since I am discussing moving in soon with my girlfriend and getting engaged and eventually married its good to hear these things so I can try to engage my partner to pursue her passions and maybe even join in like a date night paint and wine night or something to keep things fun.

Yes I can tell you first hand having similar interests and passions is very important. The thing is that it needs to carry on having the same interests in at least some things. Not everything of course but you need to grow together and learn together or eventually you will likely drift apart! Good luck with your future relationship and remember to make the proposal a grand romantic gesture. Something she can remember forever!

thanks for the tips and insight I will plan to make it very special and memorable in deed.

Yay! I am excited for her :)
Also one more Coles note tips, don't tell everyone you are proposing, you can tell a few people, like when you ask her parents for their blessing and her best friend for insight on the ring. I would say it's way more fun for her to be able to tell everyone else and say "We are engaged!!!!!" and they reply "Oh wow so exciting" rather than "Oh yah he told us he was asking you" lol (am I speaking from past experience, maybe)

No one can know the perfect way to do things but hindsight is 20/20
