Life on the Homstead#2

Yesterday was another beautiful sunny day in Florida, not a cloud in the sky. It was nice and cool again, so I took some time to teach my son how to do some routine maintenance on our car. I noticed the treads on the front tires were starting to show some wear so i thought it would be a good time to teach him how to rotate the tires first.

We started with a short safety briefing and discussed the importance of chocking the wheels and being aware of where our arms and feet were to avoid getting crushed just in case the jack failed while lifting the car up.

We applied the emergency brake and used two bricks to chock the wheels on the opposite side of the car to ensure it didn't move while we worked.

Before lifting the car we loosened the lug nuts a little.

Once we had the car lifted and our jack stands in place we took the pressure off the jack and proceeded to remove all the lug nuts on the front and rear driver side.

My daughter also wanted in on some action with the 4 way lug wrench. I think she thought it was a game spinning the wrench.

After all the tires were tightened back down and the car lowered. I had Jay go around and check the pressure in each tire.

Once that was complete I had him top off the windshield wiper fluid and check the oil level.

Lastly, we removed the air box cover and had him clean the air filter with an air compressor.

All in all I think things went well and he learned some valuable information on how to do some basic car maintenance.
