About the Way Things Change

Greetings, travelers.

It is not that The Way Things Change is the most original idea or title for a writing composition of any kind, but I have to admit that the song with this name by Yellow Days had some influence in me choosing this selection of words.

Getting older is a really singular experience, isn't it? Reflecting on the effect of time in ourselves as physical and psychological beings is not, and I dare say that will not be, something we can fully comprehend with our human minds, no matter how evolved we get.

The crazyest thing about the changing ways of things for me is that it also dependes on the way that we change. Time affects us, time affects things, and our perception of the ways in which us and the things change, is closely dependent on each other.

I used to think that change happened instantaneously, and it sometimes it does; however, in most cases, changing happens in a gradual way, and over longer periods of time.

I loved taking the picture in this post's header. It is a photo of the Universidade de São Paulo's Clock Tower, which I have photographed multiple times already, and even made two posts here about it. This one was special because I really like the cornyness of lighting it up in this way.

This is a place I remember consciously passing through the first time a little bit more than seven years ago, when I had just started my journey in the University. The tower always caught my attention, not only because of its physical presence and beautiful nature all around it, but also because of its recognitional importance, since it is one of the most famous symbols of USP.

I now find myself walking by the same Tower I have passed by an uncountable amount of times, but I find my own self a lot different than any other time.

If the existence in this so singular planet has been so complex for the past days, being in our university and watching a so familiar view, made me reflect a lot about how my perception of all of it has changed in a way so unique through the memorys of you that will forever live within me.

We'll continue to have an enormous saudade of trying to stop you coming down directly through us to score a hoop, of admiring your resilience, of hearing your so special laughter. Your affection will live with us.

This post is dedicated to the memory of an incredible person that was unfortunate to live in a not-so-incredible world. Thanks for it all, I hope you find a lot of peace, wherever you are, Luis Hikaru 🖤
