What's this?

Called the good lady from the kitchen.

I felt a surge of panic which rapidly subsided as I realised I wasn't a teenager anymore and she wasn't my mother who had found my stash of pornography.

I came to the kitchen door.

The good lady was standing there with a jar of brown powder in her hand. I stepped up and took the jar for a closer inspection.

It says Cumin, it must be a herb or spice or something?

The good lady looked puzzled.

But what is it for? Is it yours?

I pursed my lips and made a bubbling custard face.

Erm, it's for curries and shit isn't it?

I said uncertainly as I placed it back in the cupboard.

The good lady grabbed another jar and pointed it at me like a bear's penis.

What about this one then... Fennel?

I took the jar from her, the little seeds within rattling gently. A memory stirred, me in the kitchen, cooking real food. It flitted away again before I could fully grasp it.

You use them in sauces and stuff. I think.

We both looked at them in confusion.

Have you used them?

Asked the good lady with some distaste as if I were nobbing myself with a broom handle.

Again the memory flitted before me.

In the kitchen, I saw myself, chopping slicing, frying, baking. Producing lots of tasty food. Exotic food, spicy food. Amazing food. Sweet, spicy, pickly. You name it, I was making it and the good lady and I were enjoying every delicious bit of it.

Then it faded once more.

Didn't I use to cook a lot? Like every day and stuff? In fact, I did. I baked bread and I cooked sumptuous feast-like dinners every day. I used lots of herbs and spices.

I waved a hand at the spice cupboard, which was brimming with dusty tins and jars of powders and dried things.

In fact, I used every single one of these. They were my weapons of choice in the kitchen.

The good lady nodded, still uncertain. As if she couldn't quite grasp such a world.

I think you are right. But what happened?

She said slowly.

I thought long and hard. In the background Baby Shark was just finishing playing and some other song had just started up with some fucking deranged sounding woman singing frantically about Jelly on a Plate.

We had kids.

I sighed.

Ah.

Does this mark the long awaited return of Chef Boom!? I hold that series in a special place because that's what you were busy with when we first became acquainted. Unable to cook because of the children? Well... there's only one solution for that. Cook the children :O

The children are heading for the pot!! It truly is the only answer. Genius my friend, genius!!

Yeah well what can I say? Yes. Yes, I truly am ;)

@meesterboom hello dear friend, that we would be the men without species in our kitchens, the spices are our culinary secret, the magic in our flavors.
I wish you a beautiful afternoon dear friend

Well thank you very much!

So many things changes with kids - don't worry they leave again hahaaha

Hehe. I will lament about that no doubt as well :0)

I heard my husband telling his friend again how difficult it was for him when our daughter grew up and eventually left the house - I do not know if it is because I am more free spirited and believe they must do their own thing, but it was not difficult for me - I love seeing her and doing things with her, but I also love the quiet in my house and my own time - other people's kids make me tired during the day so that is maybe why I love to relax on my own time............just do not think you will ever stop worrying, no matter how old they are and when she phones me and I can hear she is not feeling well I am still her mommy

I would love to have a video of you cooking Indian recipes here in Steemit. This will be AWESOME. Upvoted!

Ah, back in the day I did the odd recipe, never a video though. They would have been fun!!

Cooking with spices gives an exquisite and exotic flavor to meals. I really like cumin in lentils, grains that are not lacking in Venezuelan food right now. Surely you cooked delicious, @meesterboom, and your strange lady those days when she enjoyed the dishes you made. Surprise her again and so she rests a bit, hahaha. Greetings and happy day for you.

We were the kings of the Kitchen! But now, since children we just make bland twoddle every day! lol!

Be human. Eat cumin.

...as I always say.

A wise saying, one which has many hidden meaning!

The kids change everything. A delicious meal is overrated. I’d Rather eat finger foods with the kids. Awesome Sauce as usual

Finger foods it is right now, sometimes though I dream!

... Not sure what this one means, but right now I don't envy your fate too much, that's for sure.

by the way, what happened to your daily schedule? You posted this one... in the middle of work?

Lol, I don't work on Mondays! So Mondays are often earlier.

It's a grim fate, aye aye, it is.
